blog to web site

I am now using a web site developed by a designer and though it was a steep learning curve I seem to have progressed quite well with the editing of the main page and adding extra pages..
I now want to set up another site using wordpress however every theme I download ends up as a blog.
How do I change a blog to a web site. I don’t want all the comments archives etc just a web site. One with a slide show would suit me perfectly.
This question seem so trivial and it must have a rather simple answer. Two days is long enough to realize I just don’t know how.

    Hello there,
I do see that your username is linked to a free blog being free hosted by wordpress.com and we can help you here. The theme you have chosen is Twenty Ten and it has a feature called “menu”. You can create a blog that looks like a website easily using this feature. First you need to understand the differences between pages and posts. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ Then you can set up a custom menu. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Best wishes with your site. :)

Also WP.com has the ability to be a just a website with out the blog feature by simply not adding any blog posts and just have pages instead for your static content… You can also disable the comments via the → Discussion Settings

I recommend reading the following support documentation since you’re new → Getting Started

You mention downloading themes. Please be aware that downloaded themes cannot be used at WordPress.com. We have about 100 themes from which to choose, but those are the themes available. The only way to change the look is to use one with a custom header and/or customizable colours. You can also, if you know CSS well, purchase the CSS upgrade and edit the existing CSS of any theme.
