Blog Transfer: Confusing confirmation message for old site owner

  • Unknown's avatar

    Howdy, :)

In the email notification I received to confirm transfer of my site and upgrades to another WordPress.com username account there is a link that I need to click to confirm the transfer. This is the message I received immediately after clicking that link:

    “WordPress > Error
User yourwpcomcierge Cannot Access the Dashboard Requested

You are logged in as “yourwpcomcierge” and do not have the necessary privileges to access the dashboard for “WPCOMCIERGE”. If you are not “yourwpcomcierge”, please log out, and log back in with your username. If you are “yourwpcomcierge” and you need access, please ask an administrator of the site to invite you.”

Ultimately this is correct and infers the transfer has occurred, but no actual mention of successful transfer to the new site owner. At one time I seem to recall that this message was a bit less generic and more on point in terms of the action taken.

    Just my 2¢. Thanks.

  • Hi there,

I can confirm that the site has been successfully transferred to that other account.

Now, as for that message, I’m not sure why are you getting that. But it appears that since the site has been transferred already you’re presented with that message since you are no longer the owner of the site.

Also, I checked the new owner’s account and I can confirm that we’ve successfully sent them a confirmation email titled [ wpcomcierge.wordpress.com ] Blog Transfer Completed.

    Thanks @fstat Everything transferred successfully.

My thought is that after clicking the link in the email to confirm the transfer to the new owner, the old site owner should land on a Success Message of some sort, not an Error Message. : )

    Hope that’s clearer.
