Blog Transfer Questions- Domains and Subscribers

    Hi!

    Quick questions…

    If I do a guided transfer from WordPress to Dreamhost..will the blog be considered a WordPress.ORG?

    Also, does the guided transfer include domain registrar transfer, because I can’t get a clear answer of how I will renew my domain name HerUmbrella.com. Will I sign in here or will i do it there? Dreamhost told me to transfer the registration.

    And…the WordPress subscribers I have now..will I loose them when I move my site? Or will they stay with me since I will still be using the wordpress software?

    1 Yes
    2 No, you have to move the domain separately. You can just change the blog the URL points to, though: I’ve done that myself, and it’s easy. This applies only to custom domains, not to regular whatever.wordpress.com domains.
    3 You have to sign in there to manage the blog after you move it.
    4 Yes, you will lose your subscribers unless you have the Domain Management Upgrade and a unique URL AND all those subscribers subscribed to your new domain name. And it applies only to RSS subscribers as far as I know: email subscribers will get nothing unless you install a similar plugin on your new blog.

    ok right now I have a .com that I’ve bought and been using since the beginning. And my .wordpress.com point to my .com (if that makes sense). So you are saying that after I move my blog I need to change my blog URL to point to something? Sorry a little confused by that.

    And to renew my domain name that I bought, HerUmbrella.com opposed to HerUmbrella.Wordpress.Com I will do that at my new host?

    @grace – since you already have a custom domain name that you have been using you would just set that up for the domain name of your new site – when that is done your traffic should follow you with no problem – you would need to have your subscribers resubscribe if you are using the WordPress.COM email subscription service.

    is there anything I can put on my site now that is a subscription service that will be easier for the subscribers to follow or should I just wait for when I switch over? And if I have them resubscribe is there a wordpress.org subscription service that is available like the one I have now?
