Blog Transfer — Timing and Sequence

  • Unknown's avatar

After a guided transfer, does the old blog become hidden automatically, or can we chose when to switch off the old blog (hosted on WP servers) to a new blog (hosted externally)? The question is about timing of the switch from old to new.

We’re in the process of building a new, custom template on a hosted server and have had problems transferring all of the existing content via the export function. We’d like to use the Guided Transfer to get all fo the posts and comments to the new blog, but that is still in a staging environment. Can we use the Guided Transfer service to transfer existing blog content to a staging environment without switching off the existing blog, which we’d do at a later point in time?

If not, how do we switch on the new blog but keep the old content?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Thanks, timethief.

I read the guided transfer material on the page you pointed to, but it’s still unclear when the old blog switched over to the new one in the process and, more importantly, if there is a way to manually control the timing of the switch. I’d like to do the transfer to the new blog, and keep the old one for a brief period of time. Is that possible?

Yes, and that’s why I tagged the thread for a Staff response. Please be patient while waiting.

  • The choice is entirely yours. Once you purchase a Guided Transfer, we’ll work with you to ensure that your needs are met.

Thanks, Macmanx! We’ll be in touch again soon to do the guided transfer…
