Blog URL

Hello! Good afternoon. A few hours ago, I deleted my blog. Now, I want to re-create it with the same URL, but it appears to be in use, while I deleted it and it does not appear in ‘My Site’, what can I do? I do not want to use another URL. Thank you!

    “ferviggiani.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site”.

There were warnings that deleting an address is a permanent action and cannot be reversed. That address is lost for the foreseeable future. You’ll have to now choose a different URL if you want to continue at WordPress.com

To add on to @themagicrobot’s statement:

    Cancel Domain

Warning: after cancellation, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else, and you may not be able to get it back. Keep in mind that you do have the option to keep the domain at WordPress.com, and use it elsewhere, see our alternatives in the below sections.

More on cancelling a domain can be found here.

@eallas With due respect that support document applies to custom domains. WordPress.com domains that are deleted can NOT become available again for at least two years according to THIS support doc:-

@themagicrobot Oh! Thanks for the insight. I had a misunderstanding there. Guess I need more coffee. Thanks for calling out my mistake, I learned something new today!

  • Thanks folks. Yeah, the deletion page warns that the site’s wordpress.com address will be gone forever. I don’t know how we can make that clearer, but if you have suggestions, please let us know.

@supernovia Someone was asking the other day how long the message/page “The authors have deleted this site” would continue to display on the Interweb. I found some that had been there for ten years! so I presume they’ll show for as long as WordPress/The Internet exists??

I don’t know how we can make that clearer, but if you have suggestions, please let us know.

I have a page that says “Don’t click here!”. It’s quite regularly visited!!

Hah! I believe it. Reminds me of the “don’t click this” thing on Twitter several years back.

Anyway, we will keep working on this issue & trying to figure out ways to make it better.

For what it’s worth, now that we do allow some URLs to be recycled, at least some of those “the authors have deleted this site” messages will go away. :)
