Blog URL is wrong and I don't know how to fix it

  • Unknown's avatar

I can log in and post to my blog, but when I try to access it as a reader wood I get a message that it’s been deleted . I think this is because I changed the URL name

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I can access http://ladymurphy1says.wordpress.com/

It is this blog that has been deleted: http://50thwardfollies.wordpress.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site

Changing a URL is a permanent and irreversible act. See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/ and http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

No changed or deleted blog URLs are recycled here for registration again, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

The deleted blog’s contents are in ladymurphysays. I am the author of 50thwardfollies. I changed ladymurphysays to 50thwaardfollies and for some reason the blog was deleted while the address remained the same. That’s what I’m trying to fix. Do I have to delete everything and start all over again? Will my blog’s name still be available to me? I find this process confusing. Thanks.

I give up. Apparently the staff either has no time or no answers. That’s what I get for trying to follow the instruction in Getting Started. I didn’t want a web site, I wanted a blog. I started one and that got caught up in your Getting Started web site nonsense. Now I don’t have the bog I want or the URL I want and nobody will find my site because you show it as deleted. How does this help me? I don’t want the URL to read ladymurphy1 I want it to read 50thwardfollies. You’d think WordPress could manage that without all this confusing fuss. The rule about not helping original owners restore what hey didn’t know they were losing is just ridiculous. I’m very disappointed by this experience.

    I didn’t want a web site, I wanted a blog.

Every day we get new people who do not understand that a blog is a website posting here. This is all semantics and blog structure.

A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.

What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.

Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

I give up. Apparently the staff either has no time or no answers.

There are many threads that were tagged for Staff attention before this one was tagged. There are millions of us and only 225 Staff, not all of whom are on Support Staff.

What’s required now is your patience as Staff have a considerable backlog of threads tagged for their attention previous to this one being tagged.

Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

Please don’t bump your thread by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

    @50thwardfollies

TimeThief is correct, deleted URLs aren’t available for reuse. I know it’s a bummer when that happens, but there are some other options that might work for you.

You could do is pick a similar URL, like Fiftiethwardfollies.wordpress.com and use it, or use the domain upgrade to map a domain like 50thwardfollies.com to your existing site.

Please let me know if you’d like any assistance in making one of those options work.
