Blog won't show up

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a site built and one of the pages (menu item) is for my blog. Under “Publish”, it shows both the pages and the blog. I have one page (Menu) for the blog. I also have a blog, with several entries.

But when I publish the “Blog” page and click on “Menu” it justs shows the message “This is where readers will see your blog”, the blog otself is missing.

When I go to the “Menu” settings, under blog, it says “Not Used” under Blog posts. So how can I have the blog show up when I click on the menu “Blog”? Not sure why I can add an empty Blog page but the blog itself says “Not Used”….

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi

Please double check the static content setting and make sure it’s set for your blog page.

    Here’s how you do that:

Visit the customizer for your site (here’s how to find it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/)

Click on the Static Front Page option

From there, keep the front page blank (the dropdown should say -select-) if you want to see your posts on the home page as they are now.

In the Post Page box, select blog.

Then save these changes with the blue button at the top.

Let me know if this works for you!

Thank you, that worked! Have a Happy Holidays and best wishes for 2017.

  • Glad it worked. Happy Holidays to you too!

Hi i’ve made a blog post but i want it to go under a different page.. Like i have made a menu with 4 different categories (makeup, skincare, beauty, freelance) + i want specific blog posts to come up in either 1 of those categories rather than on the home page:( i am really struggling with this!!

  • @makeupbyneensblog – would you please open a new thread? It’s easier for us to keep track of things that way. And also, make sure you provide the name of the blog that you are working on.

You can start a new thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

    @only1bellaross,

The site linked to your username, https://lipstiknlashezcom.wordpress.com/, has been deleted by the author(s). Are you referring to that site or another? The “Blog” menu item on a site with a static page set as the front page, will only display the blog page (aka the “posts page”) if it is set to do so in the second drop-down menu, labeled “Posts page,” at Customize > Static Front Page > Front page displays > A static page.

    @only1bellaross,

Thanks. The “Home” page of https://lipstiknlashezblog.wordpress.com/ is set as the static front page and the “Home” menu item links to it. However, the “Blog” menu item seems to also be linked to the “Home” page. Either that, or its being directed to the page by default because there is no link set for the “Blog” item. Are you displaying a custom menu?

To fix this problem you’ll have assign a page as your blog page, if you haven’t already done so, at the second drop-down menu, labeled “Posts page,” at Customize > Static Front Page > Front page displays > A static page. You may have first to create and publish a page that will serve as your blog page, because the page https://lipstiknlashezblog.wordpress.com/blog is not presently published.

If you’re using a custom menu, then you’ll next have to link the “Blog” menu item to the blog page. See the Custom Menus support page. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you! Is it a way to just reset my theme? I’m too confused on how to fix this so maybe it’ll be easier to simply reset it. @musicdoc1

    Bella,

It’s not necessary to start over on the theme, but you’re welcome to do so if you like. I think you might need staff to help you reset the theme to the way it was at the time it was created. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

If you would like instead step-by-step instructions on how to fix it without starting over, then I’ll be happy to provide those.

    Regards,
    doc

Ok @musicdoc1 I’d love the steps to see if I can fix it myself. I really appreciate your help. Really! I’ll get support if I can’t fix it. Thanks in advance.

First, let’s be sure we’re referring to the same site. You said,

    that’s the incorrect url. It’s http://www.lipstiknlashez.com

but that URL links to https://lipstiknlashezblog.wordpress.com/. Is this the site you’re referring to, a WordPress.com site?

Second, I’d like to determine if you’re using a custom menu or not. Have you created a custom menu? Is there a menu set as your primary menu at your WP Admin menus page, https://lipstiknlashezblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php? If not, then the classic menu will be displayed.

Yes I have it on primary menu but it also had a social menu. Those are the only two. I type in http://www.lipstiknlashez.com and it takes me to my site but it adds wordpress.com to it so you are correct. @musicdoc1

    Okay, thanks.

    Steps:
    1. At Customize > Static Front Page > Front page displays > A static page, scroll down to the second drop-down menu (labeled “Posts page”) and select “Blog” as your posts page. Posts page means the same as blog page.

    2. At My Site(s) > Menus delete the present “Blog” menu item. We’re going to create a new “Blog” menu item that is linked to the new blog page.

    3. At My Site(s) > Menus, add a new menu item of the “Page” type as described in the Additional menu items section of the Custom Menus support page, but choose the “Create a new page for this menu item” option at the bottom of the page options.

    4. Title the new page and menu item “Blog.”

    5. Save the menu by clicking on the blue “Save” button at the top of the menu.

That should do it. Let me know how it works out.

Correction: I forgot to move #1 after I changed my strategy. Try the steps in this order.

    1. At My Site(s) > Menus delete the present “Blog” menu item. We’re going to create a new “Blog” menu item that is linked to a new blog page.

    2. At My Site(s) > Menus, add a new menu item of the “Page” type as described in the Additional menu items section of the Custom Menus support page, but choose the “Create a new page for this menu item” option at the bottom of the page options.

    3. Title the new page and menu item “Blog.”

    4. Save the menu by clicking on the blue “Save” button at the top of the menu.

    5. At Customize > Static Front Page > Front page displays > A static page, scroll down to the second drop-down menu (labeled “Posts page”) and select “Blog” as your posts page. Posts page means the same as blog page.

That should do it. Let me know how it works out.
