Blog writing client for windows and linix

  I would like to try writing my blogs in a client that I run on my computer instead of using the wordpress dashboard. There are many available for windows. I was wondering if anybody would share their experiences with so that I can decide which one to try first.
  Also, I have a linux computer and was wondering if there are any good blog writing clients for this OS that someone might have tried and be willing to share an opinion.
