Blogdesk edit post bug

This may be out of scope for WordPress.com support, but if I try to edit a existing post with Blogdesk everything “seems” ok, except the post disappears from my blog. It DOES show up under my dashboard / manage / posts. It shows up edited and it indicates it is published (not private/draft).

I went into the wordpress.com editor (where the edited version showed up fine) and tried a bunch of things to fix it, re-saving it from the, changing it to draft or private and then back to publish. Nothing seemed to work… until I clicked the “edit time date stamp” box and viola it started displaying again.

I don’t know “where” the bug is with Blogdesk or WP.com or what, but it seems like when editing an existing post from Blogdesk you are forced to updating the time and date stamp even if you don’t want to.

Sorry to be a bit verbose, I wanted to cover everything in hopes support would look into and and if someone else has the problem in the interim this might help them solve it.

What’s BlogDesk? I never heard of it.

I use BlogDesk for posting to WordPress…. a nifty tool I might add… and I haven’t experienced any trouble with updating existing Posts, nor editing/upload/view in WordPress… not sure what it is your doing… in Blogdesk, may I suggest you “save” first, then Post, also check in R-H options, whether your Change Date/Time is off… for when you post (to ensure correct location), if you want it to be most recent then click On, which will place it as new… as for BlogDesk… I find my Blogs/postings near immediate update, by Refreshing the Site/page once uploaded… don’t give up on it yet jb510

    Nosysnoop – Try Google

Daod – Thank you for the response. I’m dismayed that it’s just me having this problem. I do love BlogDesk and for new posts it is working fabulously. However, it doesn’t matter how the r/h check boxes are set (including time/date and publish) if I edit an already published post it will disappear as the latest post on my main page, and will only reappear if I go into my dashboard/edit post and check the date/time box there and then republish or save.

What is really strange is that even though the post has disappeared from the main page it will show up by directly link, ie. a link just to the title of that post like you’d get if you clicked on the title of the post.

FYI, I have only tried editing my most recent post via blog desk and also the direct link to the post will show any changes including timestamp changes edited via blogdesk, again the post just won’t show up on my main page.

Not sure how to answer your continuing prob with Blogdesk…. as I have said, I use this freeware, and am completely satified for what it is (free, open source). Couple of suggestions…
    (1) uninstall, then reinstall… make sure you have latest version
    (2) use an alternative, such as Qumana VERSION 2 (keep awaay from the V3 beta, for now), Version 2 is stable/reliable and free… Try a post, redit, repost with this and see if the prob persists, if so, then its the WordPress end (possibly Template scripting?) that is under the cloud…. all the best…

Following last post… just checked Qumana site…. looks like the beta V3 is now stable, no longer Beta…. and version 2 is no longer available as download… just for your info…

For the record, I do ask folks to give links when discussing different softwares. In the past when “Try Google” has been posted, one doesn’t always wind up at the correct project although in this case one does. TT asked you a question much like you did yourself. :)

TT, here’s the link to BlogDesk.

I will mention though that I note that BlogDesk uses the MetaweblogAPI which, I believe, is the one MovableType is based on. I have the same issue with my webcomic when I import via the MovableType importer and have to go back in and reedit Posts, even though they are marked as Published. I’ve pointed it out to staff in the past but since they have stated that I appear to be the only one with this issue, the general thought appears that it’s something on my end.

I do note that I haven’t seen anything over on the WP.org support forums either on the subject either.

May I suggest sending in a Feedback with a pointer to this thread? I’m hoping that we can get this cleared up as it’s no fun having to double check Posts everyday as it’s happens about 50% of the time for me. :(

drmike – It was nosy who did the asking but if she hadn’t your inutition was 100% correct – I would have. Thanks for the link I went to the site and read the blah, blah, blah but I’m not at all sure what exactly his program actually does that can’t be acheived by typing directly into the WSIWYG editor as I’m doing now. Perhaps this is just another one of those many things I just don’t get. If you have the time to explain the advantage of using it that would be appreciated.

I believe it’s a Desktop poster like the w.Blogger system that comes up on occasion.

I downloaded it and when I have time I’ll read the “help” section from beginning to end.

Time? What’s that? I’m still plowing through email today. :(

Thanks DrMike. Sorry to nosysnoop if I was a bit rude. I happened to know if you Google Blogdesk that blogdesk.org is the first link that comes up, I digress. DrMike, I’ll send in feedback and link to this thread.

Timethief, BlogDesk is an offline WSIWYG editor like w.blogger, qumana or others. I’ve only been blogging a couple weeks so it’s all new to me. I’ve never liked online editors of any sort. IMHO the interface of BlogDesk is easier and faster than the online WP.COM editor, especially when linking to images, formatting, etc. I also like that I can work on a post for a while, save and then come back to it later. The spell checker is nice too. I’m sure you can do “everything” with the the WSIWYG online editor that you can BlogDesk (or equal).

Thanks for the update. I’ll move it down on my “to do” list then.

No big. I just also would like this forum to be a teaching tool as well. We may have sent someone else off to discover something that they can use. Plus it gives the designers some credit as well. :)

I’ve been struggling with the same problem as jb510 has, and finally understood what is causing the trouble. I’ve been using a lot of different publishing tools, such as Blogdesk, W.Bloggar and the new Windows Live Writer to mention a few. The only one that I’ve found and doesn’t create this problem is the Windows Live Writer, but alas, it causes the HTML to go haywire. As jb510 noted, the problem can be fixed by resetting the time stamp with the WordPress editing tool.

The problem is occures when a post is modified or created with a publishing tool. They update the time stamps, but the time stamp updated in the post_date_gmt field in the MySQL database’s posts-table is set in the future compared to the server’s time stamp. This causes the entry not to be shown. The time stamp is supposed to be in GMT, but it is actually not. In my case, it is GMT+2. I am located in a GMT+1 zone, so the conversion to GMT should be -1 instead of +1. The weird part, though, is that the posts can be seen if the user is logged in – the same way a private post would be seen. The problem can be fixed by manually changing the time stamp value in the database, or just changing the time stamp to the past in the publishing tool.

Although using the publishing tools cause the problem, I think that this could also be seen as a bug in WordPress – the GMT time stamp is not delivered correctly, althought the time is set correctly in the publishin tool. And even though the time stamp would be an hour in the future, the posts shouldn’t act as they were set to private.
