Blogger import, convert template to content?
-
Probably a long shot, but here goes…
I have an xml file that I exported from an old blogger site a while ago. I know longer have access to the site — it’s gone.
Unfortunately, it’s a template xml, although it appears to have all my content in it.
Does anyone know of any way to convert it from the template xml to content so WordPress will upload the posts?
Or does anyone know how I can just remove all the code from the template xml so I can manually add them? Thanks!

Hi there, the only built in Blogger import option we offer is the one here. Did these steps not work for you and allow you to import your content?
Welcome, Blogger blogger. We’re really glad you’ve decided to join WordPress.com! To get you back on the blogging path, we’ve put together this getting started guide. Let us pull your content over to WordPress.com, customize your new site, and start blogging again ASAP. Export from Blogger Before you import, you’ll need to export your content from Blogger. When you’re logged in to BloIf that method does not work, you may wish to consider a 3rd party Blogger importer plugin instead. https://wordpress.com/plugins?s=blogger
For example this plugin may be able to work with the template XML that you have and is worth trying out: https://wordpress.com/plugins/blogger-importer-extended
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

All of those plugins require me to have access to the blog, which I don’t anymore. I just have a template xml that I exported.
The WP importer will run with it, but none of the posts actually get imported. I read in another thread on this board that WP will only work with content only xml files, not template xml files, but that’s all I have. -
Hi there,
Yes it is likely the case that the template file will not be uderstood. Sadly it is not within the scope of our support to be able to help convert your XML file, since we’re expert in WordPress but not proficient in code manipulation outside of basic CSS.
Thiking outside the box here, you may wish to contact a few of the Blogger to WordPress services that are available via Google search. We don’t have any specific recommendations here but they may be able to convert what you have into a format that can be understood by WordPress.
Another option would be to hire a developer through Fiverr or similar, and give them the task of converting. A web professional with an understanding of HTML and WordPress import file structure may be able to write a script to extract your text content from the XML, if not convert it into a WordPress-native format.
As a final suggestion, you may wish to reach out to our Built by WordPress team to see if this is something we would be able to take on as a project. That team would have more developer resources than we have here in general support and may be able to assist you.
Built By WordPress.com is the name of our full website design service program, available to anyone who would like to hire a professional team to build, design, and develop their website for them. Our team of project managers, designers, and developers will work with you to create a customized website presence for your brand and/or business.
