Blogger in Thailand can no longer access WordPress
-
I’m a blogger in Thailand and have had no problems accessing my WordPress blogs from here. However, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology is currently blocking the entire Blogspot domain, among others, for content that defames our King or government. A current list of blocked sites can be downloaded from Freedom Against Censorship Thailand (http://facthai.wordpress.com/data/).
Given the current political situation here, I think this type of censorship will continue to run unabated. Everyone is concerned, including His Majesty who gave a rare speech on national television last week. An important vote is coming up on on Wednesday regarding the establishment of a new constitution. It will be interesting to see if a provision is provided to disallow MICT blocking entire domains as they see fit.

For those who are affected by a censorship firewall like this try the GLadder (Great Ladder) extension for Firefox, it was aimed at climbing the Great Firewall Of China and letting Chinese bloggers blog through a proxy. It has WordPress, Blogspot etc all set up by default and gives an easy interface to add whatever sites (blogging or otherwise) you want to come through a proxy.
It does not do anything for those like Karem, but it does give access to blogs to help keep the publicity up, as well as allowing documentation of other abuses the governments don’t want their people knowing about.
