Blogger Side Advertising: Adsense

  • Unknown's avatar

I think it’s time wordpress.com had an upgrade to allow bloggers to run adsense ads.

WordPress can share the profits of the adsense if they want: http://code.google.com/apis/adsense/

The only thing stopping wordpress.com from unlocking blogger side adsense is will.

With the upgrade being paid this could stop wordpress.com from looking like blogspot blogs that have ads plastered all over.

This will still allow wordpress to generate a profit from the ads.

    So please consider it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s BEEN suggested. Thousands of times. And WordPress.com has had a notice for the past three years that in future they MAY make blogger-initiated advertising available.

But I think they LIKE the filtering effect that not having ads has on the blogging population. Fools will go elsewhere looking for a quick buck. People who would make…questionable aesthetic choices…to boost revenues will go elsewhere. It keeps things clean and focused on the actual blogging.

Maybe, but having the option never hurts.

I disagree. The reason wordpress.com is a great blogging platform is because the ban on blogger initiated advertising exists. If it didn’t exist this platform would resemble Blogger (blogspot) which is full of spammers, sploggers, and low and not quality blogs that are pimped out for adsense pennies.

The type of blogs on wordpress.com does not allow them.

WordPress can restrict where the ads appear if they want.

  • Unknown's avatar

Which is what they’ve done: to their complete exclusion. What we’re saying is that yes, WordPress.com COULD allow them. And there’s probably been a decision made not to. If you want to suggest it to staff, you know how to contact them.

It’s in the ideas section for a reason…

What I also said is that it’s not a new idea. You know how many threads there are on it already. If this is here to get some democratic feedback, it’s 2:1 against, isn’t it?

Google Adsense only allows only one account for the script for their advertising to run on any blog. Currently, wordpress.com has that one account that’s allowed on all of our blogs. I acknowledge that wordpress.COM could choose to discontinue their Google Adsense contract, and allow bloggers here to have blogger initiated Adsense. However, I don’t believe that this will come to pass, and if it did then wordpress.com would have to charge us bloggers to make up for their loss of Google Adsense advertising revenue.

    No.

WordPress.com can share profits via a api from there adsense account.

As such they can control how many, and where the ads appear on each them.

They get a referral bonus for each new user, and any profit share amount.

raincoaster and I are approaching our 4th year here. This topic has been discuss,ed suggested and presented as a “bright idea” many more times that we can even recall. You have a right to submit your idea to Staff, and we have the right to weigh in and share our response to it.

Was just a suggestion don’t have to be rude.

I just thought that since Google has opened up it’s API I would post about it.

Let me add that most of the time this request is made by bloggers with very little traffic who simply delude themselves. See tellyworth’s remark here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/google-adsense-should-be-alloud?replies=38#post-409867

Ads in wp.com are perfectly possible: just make sure you get a few thousand hits per day first, then get a VIP blog…

    3:1 against

Bottom line – if advertising is important then WordPress is the wrong platform. It really is that simple.

I’ve been here 20 months and in that time the idea has been floated here ad nauseam – it’s been kicked around so much, bringing it back to this forum again is an act of futility – the consensus has always been against it, and I can’t see that changing any time soon.

Ummm … what’s with the insults? FWIW dreamsburndred and I did move on … too bad you didn’t.

“fight the power”… face it TT, you and raincoaster are part of the establishment now.

hey man, no beef, you just shouldn’t be puttin people’s ideas down in such a manner that you did. now you are constantly stalking these forums which means that 1) you have a lot of time on your hands, 2) youre a well established individual in this community and i respect that. but, this blogging game aint so easy starting out fresh, and maybe some people would find ads to be a small bolster to their daily traffic. it seems like everywhere you post a comment, you express some little hint of hostility to your fellow community members. just chill and encourage people in what they do

I agree with feartheseeds, you two should really go ask staff if they will give you a salary.
