  How do I set up a free blog? I don’t understand what a domain is? How do other people find your blog?

  Hi there, sounds like you are new to the neighborhood, so welcome! :)

  You should have been offered to set up a free WordPressdotcom site when you signed up for WordPressdotcom, but you can do that now by going to https://wordpress.com/start/ when you are logged in. The free address thousandislands2019.wordpress.com is reserved for you.

  After you set up your new website, you’ll want to head over to the tutorial at https://learn.wordpress.com to get started. There is a glossary there that explains some of the terms used here on WordPressdotcom.

  In short, a domain is a custom address on the internet where people can find your content. A free site is a “subdomain” of WordPress.com. It isn’t required, but if you want to start with your very own custom domain, like thousandislands.com if it is available, you can register that as part of any upgrade plan. WordPressdotcom offers quite a number of Top Level Domain extensions, not just dotcom.

  People find your blog through a variety of means, by being found in search engines (once you start writing blog posts or articles for search engines to find-takes 4-6 weeks), commenting on and following other peoples’ websites and blogs (but not being spammy about it), by you letting your existing community (family, friends, etc.) know you have a site.
