blogging and facebook

    Should it take 24 hours for my new blog post to show up on my facebook page? I posted a new page today, but when I looked at facebook it posted a page I did yesterday, (that I did not realize had not been posted). Have I got settings wrong somewhere or is this normal…?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    It depends entirely on what method you’re using to get your posts on Facebook. I use http://getsociallive.com and so they go up immediately.

    Are you talking about the Publicize feature? Because that should show up straight after you post, yes.

    Even when I checked the Facebook publicize button I saw nothing on my wall.What do I do?

    We can’t help you without the URL of the blog you have here, starting with http.

    I’m having the same problem….my posts aren’t showing up on facebook, I have the application, I put it on publicize….I seem to do everything correctly but it still doesn’t show up announcing I have a new post on wordpress. :( how do I fix this?
    Is it because I have my blog as password protected?

    Thanks for your help

    Do take note that the last three times there were issues they were due to Facebook making changes at their end of things. If you are using publicize and having issues then this entry may be helpful, or not.

    1. Log into your WordPress.com blog. Go to your blog’s dashboard -> “My Blogs” -> uncheck “Facebook” under “Publicize”.
    (On the “My Blogs” page, make sure you’re looking at the correct row for the blog in question.)

    2. Reload the page and confirm that the Facebook checkbox is unchecked.

    3. Log into your Facebook account. Go to “Account” (upper right corner) -> “Application Settings”. Remove “WordPress.com” by clicking the “X” in its row. (If there is no WordPress.com row, don’t worry, just skip this step).

    4. Log *back* into your WordPress.com blog. Go to your blog’s dashboard -> My Blogs -> *reclick* “Facebook” under “Publicize”.

    5. Wait for the popup appear that asks you to “Authorize connection with Facebook”. Click that button.

    6. You’ll be taken to Facebook and asked to “Allow” several pieces. Allow them all.

    Whats http://www.getsociallive.com? how does it work and how do I set it up on my blog to connect with facebook?

    @andreawade
    I don’t have an answer to your question about updating your posts. Hopefully, another volunteer will and will aslo provide specific and dteails about what you ought to do next.

    Re: other means of posting snippets of posts and links to them on Facebook
    1. getsociallive bookmarks for wordpress.com
    Have you tried generating and placing these social bookmarks http://getsociallive.com at the end of your posts prior to publication? I use them and they automatically update twitter and Facebook. There are other methods one can use as well.

    2. RSS Graffiti
    The Facebook application RSS Graffiti automatically posts snippets of your WP posts to your wall, and friends have to click the link and go to your blog to view the whole article.

    3. Networkedblogs
    In Facebook, Add Networkblogs application. Then add your feed to it on your profile. When you publish on your WordPress.com blog, it will update in the stream on Facebook and your wall.

    4. Hootsuite
    If you are a regular HootSuite user, you can implement Twitter lists and also schedule your status updates on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Ping.fm.

    ok did networkedblogs.
    Thank you!!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

    You’re welcome. :)

    @andreawade You cannot go back and publicize existing posts, you would need to re-create them and re-publish them if they did not get publicized the first time you created them because the settings were off.

    @timetheif So I decided not to do networkedblogs because I want my blog to be password protected and when I had networkedblog on it would allow anyone to click on my blog….don’t like that. :(

    @designsimply
    Hmmmmm, I’ll try that, so delete the post and recreate it and makesure facebook is checked? I’ll try it now and let you know what happens.

    Yes, deleting the posts and republishing them as if they are new amy result in them being posted at Facebook. However, this is a bad practice to use. The posts have already been indexed by search engines on the date of their publication. By deleting the original posts you are “breaking” the original URLs to those post and creating a 404 (page not found) for every person who uses a search engine to locate your blog content in those post and clicks those now “dead” and “broken” links. I would never ever do this.
