    Hi there,

As I understand, you own a domain registered at WIX and you want to point it to your WordPres.com blog – right?

A Happiness Engineer can provide you the necessary IP addresses, but It’s highly recommended that you use the nameservers:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

WordPress.com IPs might change from time to time, making your site unavailable each time that happens, forcing you to get the new IPs again – this is why you should point the domain via name servers and not via A record.

When mapping an existing domain registered with another host, the host may ask for an IP Address instead of (or in addition to) our nameservers. When possible we encourage people to add our nameservers rather than IP addresses because our IPs can change over time. If your registrar requires A records, you can contact support and we’ll provide you with a list of our current IP addresses.

Please note that since the IPs we provide are not static, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please contact us again to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records.

You can contact WordPress.com support here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
Just type in a short description of what you need, and at the end of the search results will be a blue button: “Get in Touch with Support”

    Have a good one!

  • Hi there,

To point a domain to WordPress.com using A records, you will need to add two A-records with these IPs:

    192.0.78.24

    192.0.78.25

Note that you also need the domain mapping upgrade on your WordPress.com site, otherwise it won’t work and the domain will simply lead to an error page.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

    @dragoso

Wix does not allow you to change a domain’s name servers, so those instructions won’t help in this case.

Good catch @kokkiehm, thanks! Tbh, I never worked with WIX, good to know! :)

  • Yeah, it kinda sucks that they do that, but nothing we can do about it :)

  • They also don’t allow you to export your content, so…

@kokkieh – In this case, since the OP mentioned they are using their domain at a different hosting provider, wouldn’t they be mapping their WordPressdotcom site to a subdomain?

  • @justjennifer,

I’m not sure I follow. The OP only asked for an IP to point the domain here, but that method can be used to point either the root domain or a subdomain. CNAMEs are usually used for subdomains, but you can use A-records for that as well. Not sure if Wix allows one to set CNAME records on a domain.

I guess I read the OP’s request a little differently. She said,

… to add onto my Wix site to begin a wordpress blog.

On the Wix site they say you can use a WP (!) blog on their domain by creating a subdomain and they also link to the Support doc here.

So I guess the real question is, whose domain is this? :)

I need one IP address for (A) Host in in WIX and not sure which one mentioned above to use.

Also, is it correct that there is a $99 charge to map your own domain??

Network solutions owns my domain. Wix walked me through where to input the IP Address, however, there is only a slot to include one IP, not two. I transferred my domain away from Wix b/c I could never get a live person to help me. It was all through email, however, they seem to have fixed this since. I was able to speak to two people yesterday. Is my issue resolved, no.

    thx for your help here!

  • You should preferably add both IPs, but if you can only add one, either will do. Just keep in mind your site might sometimes not load if you don’t use both.

I transferred my domain away from Wix b/c I could never get a live person to help me

If you’ve transferred the domain away from Wix, why are you still following their instructions how to pint the domain here? You should rather contact your new domain provider directly for help with that.

For Network Solutions you can actually point your domain here using name servers, rather than IPs, which is what we recommend. You can find Network Solution’s instructions to do that here:

    http://www.networksolutions.com/support/move-dns-to-a-new-server/

Also, is it correct that there is a $99 charge to map your own domain??

You need a paid plan on your site to map a domain here, but you don’t need to use Premium. You can also use the Personal Plan to do this. First add the plan under My Site ->Plans, and then add the domain mapping upgrade.

  • @justjennifer

That’s interesting. The Wix page won’t load for me, though. The fact remains that they tend to be a bit restrictive in how you can use a domain you bought from them.

@kokkieh thank you for all of your help. I will contact network solutions and follow their steps. I think it was the hosting company that I needed to work with, which is why I contacted wix.

So the personal plan is 3.00…right?! If I’m looking at the correct thing.

    thx again!!

PS. I want to know why they call you the “HAPPINESS ENGINEER”! LOL

So, I contacted network solutions. They cannot do as you suggested they would handle. They said it’s WIX. My primary domain is with Network Solutions, but WIX is my host. If Network Solutions changes my DNS servers it will no longer point to wix. I’m wanting a subdomain I created in WIX to point to a WordPress blog I would like to create, as I hear your blogging services are top notch for what I’m looking for in regards to marketing.

I’m at a loss and not sure where to go from here.

    Edit Advanced DNS

    Warning, Service Interruption Will Occur!

In order to use Advanced DNS Manager, your Name Servers must be moved to Network Solutions managed name servers.

Please Note: When you Move Name Servers to Network Solutions, your Existing Name Servers will no longer be used. As a result, Web sites and E-mail from other providers will be lost.

    Existing Name Servers
    ns8.wixdns.net
    ns9.wixdns.net

    New Name Servers
    ns##.worldnic.com
ns##.worldnic.com (## will be assigned upon clicking Go)

Name server changes may take up to 24-36 hours to update throughout the Internet. Successive changes made using the DNS Manager – Advanced Tools, will take effect within 2 hours.

Cancel Move Name Servers to Network Solutions

  • So the personal plan is 3.00…right?! If I’m looking at the correct thing.

Personal is $2.99 a month, but it’s billed yearly, so you pay the total amount of $35.88 on buying the plan.

I’m wanting a subdomain I created in WIX to point to a WordPress blog I would like to create

Okay, in this case you’d need to add a CNAME record in Wix’s system. Here are their instructions how to do that:

    https://support.wix.com/en/article/using-a-subdomain-to-connect-an-external-resource-eg-a-blog-to-your-wix-domain

Add a CNAME record. For the Host field, add the subdomain you want, and in the Points To or Alias field, put the address of your WordPress.com site, for example, araiofstitches4u.wordpress.com. Make sure to include a dot . at the end of the WordPress.com address.

Changing the name servers at Network Solutions is only if you wish to point the root domain to us, not for a subdomain.

Thank you @kokkieh!!! I will try this and tell you what happens. So they had me change the (A) Host..this is probably wrong then?! I’ll check into it and get back.

    thx again!!
