Blogging tools, Image sourcing, Office shortcuts and more

For the past several days, I’ve been posting about tools I’ve found extremely useful. From Live Writer to Bing Image Search, there are a lot of great tools that are absolutely FREE. I’m sharing this information because I’m a teacher and love to help others.

The quality of video embeds is getting better as I experiment with different screen-capture tools, but WordPress has a lot of great information about video. You don’t have to do the videopress upgrade if your video is hosted elsewhere. I chose Vimeo which has a lot of great tutorial information also.

Having read the forum FAQ and the Code of Conduct, there must be some unwritten rule that only timethief knows. Please tell me where the rules are if they are not posted as sticky notes at the top of the forum.

Yes, ma’am. I misinterpreted the housekeeping statement (which really should appear as a sticky at the top of the forum and actually be part of the Code of Conduct). I could certainly understand the limitation on blog promotion. My intent was to provide useful tools for blogging. I thought that was the purpose of the Ideas forum.

But then, no one here needs any help or advice except yours, timethief. TYVM. Buh-bye.

Please don’t choose to feel offended. You’re right. There were so many sticky posts I suppose some had to be demoted based on their dates. We don’t get many blog promotion posts here and I felt marking the thread as spam wasn’t a kind-hearted thing to do.

My point is this: if WordPress is going to put forth an enforceable policy, then the entire policy should be in the Code of Conduct at the top of the forum. That is the place that anyone with any experience using forums would look for such a policy and expect a post labeled “Code of Conduct” to contain all policies regarding forum use.

It seems that, thankfully, my post here is in keeping with the Forums Code of Conduct which states,

“…please do not spam the forums or post links to blogs containing objectionable material.”

I hope that I rightfully assumed that if a) I link to information (my own or someone else’s) which can benefit other bloggers, and b) that site does not contain objectionable material, then links to blogs are permissible. If this assumption is incorrect, I would like a WP staffer to clarify the policy and revise the Code of Conduct.

Otherwise, perhaps I’ve not only posted links to useful tools, but also corrected a misinterpretation concerning links to blogs for everyone.

TT given the number of links to your own blog you drop, I think it best to let it go. They’re useful links. Respect them for that.
