blogroll– in small words?

I am a brand new member and I am having some trouble figuring out what I’m doing. I can’t see my blogroll on my sidebar. I read in FAQ or something that I’m supposed to use maybe the text widget but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be entering in it. I apologize for my complete lack of knowledge here, and I’d appreciate help in small words for someone with no wordpress knowledge whatsoever.

Your blogroll is a list of links to other blogs. The blogroll will not display until you have an entry in the blogroll.
To create a link for your blogroll do this:
1. Go to your admin.
2. Click Blogroll.
3. Click “Add Link”.
4. Fill in the information it needs. As a minimum it will need the URL (the actual link) and the name. Although the description is optional, it will show up when people hover over the blogroll link. On the right hand side select a category for the link.
5. Click “Add link”If you haven’t played with the sidebar widgets, you should now be able to see the new link in your blogroll in the sidebar.
Changing the sideabr widgets is done by going to “Presentation” and then “Sidebar Widgets”. Dragging and dropping works for any widgets you want there.
For the moment don’t worry too much about the text widget. Many people use it for a quick introduction or “about” in their sidebar. You can just type in it, save and drag it to the appropriate place on the sidebar.
There’s lots of information in the forum about widgets that you can finding by searching for “widget” in the search box at the top of the main forum.

Okay, I added my blog address to the website spot like you asked.
I followed all the instructions you left, actually that’s how far I had gotten before I posted here. Maybe the problem is I already have a text widget to put my picture up there? My husband knows what he’s doing more than I do so he helped me do that part. But neither of us can figure out this blogroll thing.

Did you put your blogroll link into a category? If you don’t, it won’t appear. I have been here a while so can’t remember if there’s a category by default. It might be called “uncategorised”. That will do for the moment. While on the subject of categories, although they can be made “on-the-fly” as such, you might do well to create one called “blogroll” for the moment. It makes an easy place to file them. You can always create more and shuffle stuff around later. To do this, go to “Manage” then “categories” and “Add New”.
Thanks for putting the link in, makes life much easier. Just means we can click your name rather than having to search or guess. :)
The other thing you should do for the moment is make a test post. Something like “still settling in, check back soon” will be fine. Just tells people that you’re playing rather than the horrible “sorry no posts matched…” message at the moment.
Glad to see you got the hang of the text widget. That’s cool and it won’t affect the blogroll at all.

I just actually made a post cuz I was getting sick of seeing that message too! LOL
I made a couple categories for my stuff and they’re still not showing up but I read somewhere it might take a few minutes for sidebar stuff to refresh so I’m waiting a couple minutes.
