Blogroll link separation
-
My blogroll has two categories to it: #1 is simply blogroll and #2 is titled “Sites I Visit”. When I add a link in my blogroll, I have the option of where to put the link… either in “Blogroll” or “Sites I Visit”. My problem is that the links in the blogroll category are showing up fine in my sidebar on my blog but the links in the “sites I visit” category are not showing up. I’m not quite sure what I’m doing wrong but I’ve been wandering around for about an hour, trying to figure it out, and can’t. Maybe someone can help me? What I want to happen is for there to be two titles of links in my sidebar: one called “Blogroll” and one called “Sites I Visit”. ~Wind

All wordpress.com blogs have only one Blogroll located in the Admin area where you enter all links and assign each link to one or more Categories.
The links you enter into your Blogroll are displayed only after the Links widget is placed in your sidebar. Also note that there must be at least one link assigned to a Category before it will appear in your sidebar.
Likewise, the Category widget must be placed in the sidebar for posts to display. And just like links when it comes to posts there must be at least one published post in a Category before the Category will be displayed in your sidebar.
Once your Links widget and Categories widget are positioned in your sidebar, the manner in which the links you entered into your Blogroll will be displayed is alphabetically in accord with the Categories you created and assigned to those links when you entered them into your Blogroll.
Therefore as you will have multiple Categories it may look like you have multiple Blogrolls when you view your links in your sidebar. But in truth, you only have only one Blogroll, which displays links as separate alphabetically ordered groups, in accord with the Categories that you assigned to those links when you entered them into your Blogroll.
* Also note that the foregoing does not apply to the Blix theme which is hard-coded to display all links in one alphabetically organized row.

Hi time thief. Last time I asked a question like I have to do now, I got my ass chewed. I do have a question regarding the blogroll, and do not want to do the same mistake again. I used the feedback, but no one replied. How do I do to ask questions when something is not working as it should?
-
I am not feeling hungry as I just ate so ask away and we shall see where your question leads. :) What is it that you want to know about your Blogroll?

Thanks!!! I tried to add a new category that says Blogroll instead of uncategorized. Tried all possible combinations, (uncategorized unchecked) and it does not create the blogroll cat. My blog is http://www.307cic.wordpress.com
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay let’s start with this.
(1) No wordpress.com blogs ever have “www” in their urls ever. This is because the “307cic” replaces the “www”. Your blog’s url is http://307cic.wordpress.com
(note that there is no period after the url. If there was the link would not work.(2) I just tried that url and it did not work. Take your mouse and go to the front page of your blog and select the url in the browser bar. Click ctrl c simultaneously to copy it. Next come back to the forum and paste that url into this forum post so I can see your blog.

You are right. Never noticed that. I will go and try it. I will let you know soon. In the meant time, I thought that if I had a question, I should search for the appropiate topic in the forum, and just ask. It seems that some people took offense, (which was never my intention) which is the appropiate procedure to ask questions as these?
-
Asking in the forum after searching is the correct procedure.
Maybe your blogroll widget’s not picking up on the second category because they’re not ticked “Blogroll” so I’d suggest you tick BOTH categories for them and see what happens. Maybe they’ll form their own unit, maybe they won’t, but at least they’ll show up.

You have not placed your Links widget in your sidebar. Until you do and unless you have assigned at least one link to a category when you entered it into your Blogroll then no links can be displayed.
-> Presentation – > Widgets drag your Links widget out of the Available widgets box and place it in the Sidebar box and then click “save changes”

Okay I see “Uncategorized”.
It appears that you have not placed your Categories widget in your sidebar. Is that so?
It also appears that you have not assigned any categories to your posts. Is that so?
-
Right!!!!!!!!! Now I have another problem: the widget bar is too long and it does not work when that happens. I will try it later. Thank you so much. I will leave it there for a while just in case you want to see what happened.

I can see your blog just fine and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the length of your widget bar seen with my firefox 2.0.0.3 browser.
I believe that you are missing the important points because you are focused on other things that are not essential at this point. Let’s just go slowly and step by step until we accomplish everything.
go here -> Dashboard -> Manage -> Categories
How many categories do you have and what are they called?
I’m suspecting that you do not have any.
Is that correct?go here -> Dashboard -> Blogroll
How many links do you have and what are they called?
I’m suspecting that you do not have any.
Is that correct? -

It did not work. Plus, now all the widgets are the default ones and I cant get them in. I try to drag them and it gets blue like when you try to paste something. Anyways, I have another blog, the category widget is not there, and I am still able to have a blogroll name and a uncategorized one: http://dekoenigsberg.wordpress.com/

This is very strange. I’m afraid that you do need staff help and I’m sorry that I cannot help you. :(
P.S. I also tried this in my test blog using the very same theme. And it now looks just like the blog at the second link you gave above.
