Blogs I follow appear in reader but I get no emails

    I am following a number of blogs. For most of them I have received no email notifications for about a week, and assumed they weren’t posting. But when I look in the reader, I find that they have made multiple posts, but I have received no email notification.

    I have checked all my settings and I am definitely set up to receive emails immediately when new posts appear – and I do, for one of the blogs. But I do not receive notifications for any of the others, despite the fact that the posts appear in the reader.

    What is going on?

    Just to add that I have checked my email spam folder, and they are not in there.

    I am having the opposite issues — am getting emails but nothing at all shows up in my reader.

    Will you please confirm that you have the follwing set up correctly?
    The email address you used when registering your WordPress.com account is listed in:

    the Settings tab on the WordPress.com home page, or
    Users -> Personal Settings in your dashboard

    Click the Manage Delivery Settings link in your reader to confirm your default email delivery methods for all the blogs you follow.

    I have checked in Reader>Manage Delivery Settings, and the settings are as follows:

    Default email delivery: Instant email delivery
    Jabber Instant Messenger Delivery: Disabled
    Email Delivery Format: HTML
    Email Delivery Window: 6:00am-8:00am Monday (I think this is not relevant as I have “Instant” selected?)
    Block Emails: unchecked

    I do receive notifications for everything else – likes, comments, responses to this thread – and I am receiving posts from one of my followed blogs by email, but none of the others.

    Just to confirm when on http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ “Get new posts by e-mail” is set to “Instantly” for each blog you wish to receive updates from yes?

    No. Most of them were set to “never”, but two were set to “immediately”.

    I never changed these settings – I had no idea this page existed. So how did the settings end up different for the various blogs I’m following? In each case, I just clicked “follow” on the blog in question. It seems to have come up with the email setting randomly.

    This probably explains the quite widespread problem of people not receiving emails from blogs they are following. I would call this a bug that urgently needs to be fixed – when most people click “follow”, they expect to get emails, so this should be changed to default to “immediately”. Blogs are losing traffic the way it is right now.

    However, thank you for pointing me to this page; if this doesn’t solve the problem I will post again.
