blog/web site

I set up a blog, now I want a web site. Do I create a web site in a different place? The two terms seem to be interchangeable. Confused.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your are right. A blog is a website. This is all semantics and blog structure. A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is. When it also has a static front page that compels visitors to click through a static front page every time they visit the site then the blogger has made a traffic killing choice.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
Then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that.
On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.

I like blogs, but I don’t want people to remember to write “wordpress” when finding me. I just want the to be able to enter my domain “bluebenchstudio.com”

Yes and that’s easily addressed by purchasing a domain mapping upgrade.
Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

I can see that you’ve added your existing domain to your WordPress.com site.
However, it looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=bluebenchstudio.com
Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
Once this is done, set bluebenchstudio.com as your site’s Primary Domain via your Dashboard (Store > My Domains).
Let us know if you have any more questions :-)

When I got to the update domain part I realized that I do not want to switch my domain from Blue Host. It is very confusing. Now I understand that Blue Host uses WordPress.org, not wordpress.com. I will not be moving my domain.

No problem.
If you have any other questions regarding WordPress.com, please let us know :-)
