blows my mind that support can be closed down

  • Unknown's avatar

It is amazing that a company the size of WordPress can shut down any and all support for its customers for such a long period of Time. I have paid for a new domain and need to get started but am not receiving any notifications for activation of my new account. My business is as good as paralysed for now. maybe my customers will accept me closing down for a week and not servicing them while wordpress has whatever they have going on that is more important than customer support ?
    I think not

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

The support staff is not available but the support volunteers are so we can answer your questions.

What is the website address of your new domain? Post it here so we can figure out what the issue is.

Your domains (if you bought them from WordPress or if you bought it somewhere else and had already mapped it) should be here: https://wordpress.com/domains/

Here are the instructions for registering a new domain:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

    Hope that helps!

There are actually minimal Staff on duty and they are monitoring the forums.

    Hi there,
Please check in your email client spam/ junk mail filter as well as your “social” tab in Gmail. If it’s not there then please post the URL of the blog starting with http:// I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    @timethief
Good afternoon! I thought that there’d be minimal staff but I wasn’t sure so thanks!

    @honeyslivas
Good day to you. :) Yes, there are always Staff monitoring though they may not be visible on these peer support forums.

my new domains are http://(email visible only to moderators and staff) and http://gordmckissockvschrisbech.com I believe . once I signed up for them and did not receive notification emails I went looking for answers and left the sign up pages so am not entirely sure of the urls. I figured all information would be forwarded to me in the activation emails.

they were registered using my email addresses
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
    and
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
if that would help tracking down where these applications are.

I am currently using my other wordpress accounts to login here now and when trying to login in with the usernames or email addresses of my new accounts , I am told those usernames do not exist,

Thanks for any and all help

And yes, I have checked spam/junk and social files of my email accounts

    Hi,

The first domain name you posted here was redacted so I couldn’t check that one. If you could repost the first website address, that would be great.

The http://gordmckissockvschrisbech.com domain has not been purchased yet and is still available. That is probably why you did not receive an email regarding it.

Please follow the steps here to register a new domain:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

    Hope that helps!

I did purchase the second domain name and when I enter either dmain name to reregister, I am told those domain names are no longer available. maybe I am wrong with the domain names exactly but i have definitely paid for on domain name and am hesitant to now pay for another one and get the same results.

What I really need to know is what are the domain names that are now associated with those email accounts.

  • Unknown's avatar

Just for clarification, to purchase the domain and have it easily linked to your WordPress account, follow the instructions here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

Don’t purchase it from the link here: http://www.whois.net/whois/gordmckissockvschrisbech.com
otherwise, you’d have to map the domain and do a bunch of other stuff. I only mentioned this link to show that this domain is still available.

    Hi,

Where did you purchase your domain name from? Did you purchase it here at WordPress.com or did you use a different domain name provider? If you purchased it here from WordPress.com, it would have been $18 per domain name.

Did you also purchase hosting by any chance? If you did, who did you purchase it from?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes I purchased it here at WORDPRESS for $18 . I did not purchase hosting. I automatically assumed it would be hosted by WORDPRESS.
Am I wrong in that assumption? As far as I remember, there was no hosting option provided.

    ps, thanks for your help

    Gord

    Hi, Gord,

No, you’re not wrong. I was just checking to make sure we ruled that out in case that was the reason that you couldn’t login.

Anyway, this has been tagged for staff so just wait patiently for the staff to reply and they should sort this out for you. Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

Email addresses are automatically redacted because these are public forums. This is for your protection: spam prevention.

You are correct: a domain mapping upgrade still means you are hosted here on WordPress.com. You are therefore subject to all of the Terms of Service and code restrictions you agreed to when you started your site here on WordPress.com.

I’ve modlooked this thread for staff to intervene: if you subscribe, then you’ll be notified when someone responds.

There is not quick and easy pill to take which will magically make your site go viral. Who could predict such a thing, and if someone tries to sell that to you, your best bet would be to sit back with a nice cuppa tea and write a post.

It takes work, persistence, effort, even love to make your site work! WordPress.com has great SEO built in. Do a few Google searches about that. Which means the success you want to achieve is completely up to you making interesting, competent posts regularly.

Here are lots of connections about how to increase readership:

Here is a good one from my friend and long-time WordPress.com volunteer timethief:

She’s got a lot of links and info there which is all worth your time to learn about.

  • Unknown's avatar

lol, thanks. I don’t expect it to go viral and am fully aware of the need for good content and the work I will have to put into that.

My question regards initial Google indexing. I am far from experienced in this but do run several companies with websites. Recently, on one of them I realized that ebven if you do a google search on the specific name of the website, it would not show on google. That particular site has over 500 visits a day driven by social media and after 4 months the problem for Google indexing was still a problem. ( I mean NOTHING in the 23 pages of results) I have now been told that the site was never submitted to Google for indexing. I don’t know if that is even a valid explanation of why we are experiencing the problem but now that I am attempting this small blogsite myself, I would appreciate knowing whether there is a step I initially have to take to see that the problem is not repeated.
I will get traffic there through linking from other sites and from social media, but eventually I want to have some traffic driven organically. Am I not right in wanting to be pro active on this rather than trying to fix the problem down the road.

As for the SEO, I guess I am referring to the fact that on our other corporate sites, when I post, there is an SEO tool that helps me ensure that the post is optimized for the keyword I am targeting. This new blog site does not appear to have that. Do I need to upgrade, install a plugin, or is it there but I am not looking in the right place?

Thanks for your patience and help

    Gord
