Blue borders around linked images

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m trying to remove the borders around linked images. In Safari all looks correct, but when I view in Firefox there are red borders. In IE on Windows, the borders are blue.

    Here’s where it gets weird …

    I put a bit of code at the bottom img border none, and the borders were gone in all browsers. Pleased with myself I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning, the borders were back.

    Any suggestions?

    We need a link to your wordpress.COM blog. The site linked in your user name is not hosted here.

    Oh yes. Duh to me. longislandgothic.com

    You mean http://longislandgothic.com/ – that makes the link clickable

    A direct link to the post would have been useful, but I finally found this one http://longislandgothic.com/2008/11/16/the-ghosts-of-fire-island-lighthouse/ that had a border.

    Have you tried defining the image border in your CSS? I’m not clear on where you are putting the border none code.

    Code should be:

    border=”0″

    (after “img” or after URL, with a space inbetween)

    I’ve tried defining it in the CSS. Originally I just placed it at the end of the CSS, and as I said, it worked. I used BrowserCam to take screen shots of the pages using all browsers on all platforms, and there were no borders. A few hours later however, without changing the CSS, the borders were back on again. In addition to BrowserCam, I verified that they were gone with a friend using a Windows computer, I.E.

    I’ve also tried defining it under img.alignleft, center and right, but to no avail. It only happens on images which are clickable links, which leads me to believe that the borders are defined in the link section of the CSS. But it’s not defined as such in any of the code that I see, so I’m guessing it’s part of the theme, and perhaps not something which can be changed.

    I also tried adding the border=0 both after img and after the URL.

    I can work around it by not making the images clickable, and instead linking via the captions, which seems to work. But I kinda dread going back through the site and changing all the images and captions.

    And thanks for the hints on how to make it easier to use the forum.

    Hmm – I looked at your CSS and didn’t find anything at the end related to images. Did you save it?

    It is definitely related to links. I just can’t find the section in your CSS that says that. There are only a couple of CSS gurus around here (and I’m not one of them) so hopefully one of them will come around and take a look.

    I don’t suppose it happens only on links you have/haven’t clicked on?

    It seems to strip it out at the end, because it’s inserted whenever I update my CSS. And it seems to do it regardless of whether the link has been clicked or not. And thanks for your help all the same ma’am!

    It’s stripping it out? Can you post here (between backticks) what you are trying to include?

    Okay, I seem to have figured it out. Maybe. I’m working on my code in a text document, when finished I paste it in the CSS box, set to start from scratch. After pasting I confirm it’s there, then hit style sheet. When I look in the editor, everything below the CSS for text area is missing. So I paste the bit of code `img {
    border:none;
    }’ into the editor, hit save and it remains. And no blue borders. Perhaps a blue bottom border but I believe I know how to get rid of that little monstrosity.

    Still don’t know why it doesn’t take all of my CSS when I hit save, but that seems to be the mystery!

    Glad you got it worked out!
