Bluehost

  I was reading Ann Andrews blog on starting a blog. She suggested using Bluehost. Are there any advantages to using Bluehost in conjunction with WordPress? Thanks, Karl

  Hey Karl,

  Bluehost is definitely a great hosting service. In fact, it’s one we recommend for self-hosted blogs here:

  However, it’s a bit different than WordPress.com. If you setup hosting at Bluehost, you’re effectively setting up a self-hosted blog using WordPress.org software. The main difference is that you have the flexibility on a self-hosted site to add plugins, add custom themes, edit any and all site files, etc. However, that also means that you’re responsible for site backups, site security, etc. The difference is broken down a bit here:

  Thanks Jeremey! As a new blogger, looks like it is best I start with WordPress and look at Bluehost down the road. Appreciate the advice.

  Hey Karl,

  I think that’s a great plan of action. It allows you to focus on the blogging aspect without worrying about hosting, plugins, etc. Later on down the road, you can always move to a self-hosted site with Bluehost.
