BlueHost account deleted, and lost. How to recover?

  • Unknown's avatar

    My bluehost domain account deleted. Is my blog through WordPress.org completely lost? I obviously cannot log into http://www.vintagemauve.com/wp-admin anymore to try and recover it. But when I log into wordpress.com and look at my dashboard, it still lists the website and stats. Is there anyway to get this back and transfer it to a wordpress.com account? Or have you host it completely through wordpress.org?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    There is no domain mapping upgrade for vintagemauve.com.
    http://ismyblogworking.com/vintagemauve.com

    If you would like to use this domain with your free hosted WordPress.com blog you will first need to set up domain mapping. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

    See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

    See if Blue Host has some sort of a backup they will sell or give you. If they do have some sort of a backup, you will probably need to get help at WordPress.ORG to get the backup into a form that can be imported into WordPress.COM – not likely any backups would be directly importable into a blog here

    @timethief,

    Thanks for your response. Mapping a domain would seem like a reasonable answer, but I would be currently mapping a domain that has nothing behind it. As you can see, http://www.vintagemauve.com is a default blue host page because they no longer have my page on the server. It was completely lost, and they do not have a back up. Nor do I, unfortunately, because it was lost when my hard drive on my desktop went bad a few months back. This is why I would be hoping I could access it from wordpress some how.

    As it stands right now, when I log into my wordpress.com account that did have some connection to my wordpress.org account, it does show all of the stats of the pages. Like, comments, posts, how many drafts I had. But when I click any of those links, it routes me back to the bluehost default http://www.vintagemauve.com screen. This is my dilemma, because I can still see the stats, but not access any of the settings to transfer since BlueHost no longer has any of the files.

    @auxclass,

    Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, BlueHost does not have a back up to access or buy. I’ve already tried that route. My back up has since been lost due to hard drive failure. This is why I was so desperately hoping I could pull it from wordpress.com, because when I log into a wordpress.com account, I can still see the site stats of the bluehost/wordpress.org website.

    Then your only option would be see if your site is still cached in search engines, remember Google is not the only search engine.

    Then there is also the Wayback Machine & Archives.org I think that sometimes has sites cached.

    Try searching on:

    site:vintagemauve.com

    That should get you started and get a bit of your site back

    @auxclass,

    Thank you so much! This is great help in pulling entries from the last year. I was able to find an old backup on my old hard drive, but it has nothing past 2012. At least with looking up the cached sites, I can track down 2013 posts. The layout is probably lost, but I was probably due for a new layout design anyway. :-) Thanks for your help, I greatly appreciate it.
