Bluehost cancellation

  Hi WordPress,

  I am currently running a website built in WordPress but hosted by bluehost. We are a not-for-profit educational site and, unfortunately, we are unable to pay our upcoming bluehost renewal fee.

  I know that this mean I will have 60 days before my domain is put back up for sale and there’s a risk I could lose this domain. However, I wanted to check what will happen to my website? Will my website remain in WordPress? If so how long for and, if I lose my domain name, can this same site be operated with a different domain name/ copied across to a different domain at a later date?

  You’ll have to aske Bluehost support what happens with your site as they host it.

  Thanks Staartmees. I spoke to Bluehost and they said I would have to ask WordPress. From conversations with Bluehost, my understanding is they provide the domain name and, like you say, host but the actual website is stored on WordPress serves? Is this correct

  What is the URL of your site? If it is hosted here at WordPress.com then letting a paid plan expire would entail your content reverting to a basic free site.

  But if your site is built with the wordpress software but definitely hosted on Bluehosts servers then failure to renew your Bluehost payment will mean you will lose your site (and domain). I’d take a backup if I were you (or lend your non profit the money).

  Hi themagicrobot. Thank you very much for the advice. The URL is https://nsts-ed.com. Bluehost definitely provide our domain name and, I suspect, host our site. Bluehost were quite unhelpful when I called them. Do you know if there’s any other way to know for sure? Equally, how does one go about making a backup?

  It’s definitely hosted by Bluehost. You have 6 weeks to get the money together to renew.
