Bluehost's customer service non-existent

    Hi

On the 18th February, I first contacted Bluehost’s Technical Support centre via email to ask for access to my web files. I needed to switch blog host provider as Bluehost had become too expensive for a small blog like mine.

I was told to follow certain steps to recover the files but the instructions provided did not work – the ControlPanel was unresponsive. I was asked to repeat the same operation 5 or 6 times by Bluehost Tech Engineers (level 1) – each attempt was unsuccessful.

After almost two weeks of to-and-fros, I suggested alternative solutions to the Engineer e.g. send the files via email or send the files via a free FTP service like https://www.wetransfer.com/. But the Technical Support Engineer refused to cooperate and insisted that I must ‘try again’ to download my files via the ControlPanel.

Eventually, a Tech Support Engineer level 2 picked up my enquiry and admitted that what I was asked to do wouldn’t work. The only way to get access to my files was to pay for a renewal package. He advised that I contact Bluehost billing to make a request for 1-month renewal, so I did but I didn’t back from the billing department.

I went back to the Tech Support Engineer level 2 who then said he had “set up a 1-month renewal in my shopping cart”. I just needed to go ahead and pay for it but when I went in my account, there was no option to purchase a 1-month renewal.

I emailed (again) asking for how to proceed with the 1-month renewal, and the last response I got was “Thank you for contacting support and I apologize for the delay in replying to your email. You will need to renew the account before you will be able to create a backup or download files.”

Not massively helpful. So I emailed again: “I’ve not heard back on how to set up the 1-month renewal. In an attempt to stop wasting time with to-and-fro emails on a daily basis for the past two weeks, I look forward to a genuinely useful response/help.”

    Nothing. No response.

Any idea on how to go forward with this? Do you know someone I can contact with some sort of authority at Bluehost who can help?

My blog has now been down for 4 weeks because of Bluehost’s refusal to hand over my files and so I’m unable to switch host provider…
