Blurry header photo

I’ve tried to crop it, I think I’m in a windows kind of editor thingy and it will only crop within certain linked dimensions, so I can’t make it sufficiently short without making it too narrow, widthways. I really don’t want to start using Flickr or anything like that. Thanks all.

You can edit image size easily at photoshop.com
Creating an image with the right dimensions will stop it from distorting and pixelating. At the moment I would say your source image file is too small which is why it’s distorting like that.

theianfox is right. The way to go when it comes to preserbing image quality is to optimize and presize your images to fit into the spaces you aim to display them, prior to uploading them. You can easily optimize and re-size it in either desktop image editing software or online image editing software to fit the space you intend to use it in. Preparing and resizing your images prior to uploading them into your blog means you will also not be wasting your space for media and your won’t experience any problems so you won’t end up troubleshooting images.
