Body widht and font-size

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I’m trying many different themes but for both of them the width of page is too small and base font-size too huge.

there is a way to customize these options?

    thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

For any theme you can set a custom font, which will also allow you to change the font size:

    https://wordpress.com/support/custom-fonts/

The width of the content area in themes is based on best practice in web design and typography – the human eye can only comfortably read up to a certain number or characters in a line, and once you start making your content area too wide and the lines get too long, it becomes very hard for a website visitor to read your content. Especially if you have a text-heavy site.

That said, all of our newer themes that have been created with the block editor in mind fully support the Wide Width and Full Width alignment options in the editor. So you can use those options to control the width of your content on a per-post/page basis.

You can also change the width of the content area on your site globally using custom CSS code, but for that you’ll need to upgrade to our Premium Plan.

    Hello Kokkieh,
Yes I know and agree with all aspect you mentioned but:
    1) width and font-size are not lineary linked , that means there isn’t a max-width based on character number, but it’s depends by font size and also by screen width.
    2) I can set the font-family but not the font-size (for all the site)
    3) this thread accept almost the double of character allowed in many themes, and I can read very well and comfortably.

    Let me better explain:
    take a look to https://incontriamici.wordpress.com/guida-rapida/ or https://incontriamici.wordpress.com/articoli/

It seems a site for “visually impaired”, the font is huge, the readeable width is one third of the page.

Which is the goal aimed by these themes? Just create a showcase of something?

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for that information there.

    take a look to https://incontriamici.wordpress.com/guida-rapida/ or https://incontriamici.wordpress.com/articoli/

Looking at the above, what are you looking to achieve specifically?

For instance, are you trying to tweak the font size of the article title, and/or expand the width of the content?

    Many thanks.

    Helo,
I’d like to find a theme (block ready) with a wider default width for content and a lesser default font-size.

The theme should also allow to use an image instead of the blog name like modern or tweny twenty.

Modern theme could almost fit for my needs, but the background color of the page header (the title) is always white…

    thanks!

  • With what you’re describing, it sounds like Twenty Twenty-One would be a good fit: https://wordpress.com/theme/twentytwentyone

It’s block-ready, the font isn’t too large, and you can display a logo with the option to display the site title or not.

    I tried 2021 before 2020

The title is ridiculously enormous and the width small, also the font-size is bigger than I wishing.

Honestly I don’t understand why the there isn’t a way to set these parameter for all site:
    – font base: family and szie
    – header font base: family and size
    – content width: in rem or with a few options

2021 is limited on 610px (on monitor with 1920px!)
    2020 is limited on 58rem

A standard book use many character more (100-120)

  • How a theme looks is up to the designer at the time, but we do have many themes available, so you might still be able to find one to your liking.

Since a block-ready theme is your first priority, I recommend starting with this list: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/block-editor-styles/

You can modify fonts and sizes following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/custom-fonts/ and get into even more refined customizations with CSS: https://wordpress.com/support/editing-css/

The font size must be changed block by block for each article… it is not a solution.

Each theme has big font base and tight content width… And I tried many themes.

Yes I know if I spent money I can edit the CSS but in my opinion this is a bad way to stimulate purchases.

You’ll like FSE themes, then. That’s in the works.

SIte editor is just for business plan.

I’m trying 2015 theme it could work but the list has a wrong layout… this is a bug

  • @lorussodo Twenty Fifteen does not support FSE.

Also, the site isn’t currently using Twenty Fifteen:
    https://twentyfifteendemo.wordpress.com/

I do see a text stretched out in a big background image on the current theme — is that what you’re referring to?

Also, can I recommend going through the theme demos and, when you find one that’s as close as possible to what you want, activate that? We can help you make it look like its demo without upgrades.

    take a look to https://twentyfifteendemo.wordpress.com/html-elements/
    at list section
The list elements are outside the paragraph block.

Yes I tried many themes starting from site demo.

Each theme has something doesn’t fit: content too small, font too big, header huge, incorrect rendering of some part (header for Modern, List forn 2015)

At now I’m trying Stratford, isn’t a greater them, but at least, it works.

what is very incredible is the default wordpress theme from year to year they become less and less flexible

  • Hello there,

    take a look to https://twentyfifteendemo.wordpress.com/html-elements/
    at list section
The list elements are outside the paragraph block.

This page is not built with blocks. Instead, this content is within a classic editor block.

Each theme has something doesn’t fit: content too small, font too big, header huge, incorrect rendering of some part (header for Modern, List forn 2015)

Is there a website out there you’re looking to emulate? Perhaps we can offer some advice on theme selection.

    :-D

    Problem discovered:
2015 is define block-ready, but the layout of list is wrong
Modern don’t use the background color in header…
    2020 Header size enormous
