bogus comments emails
-
I have received emails from wordpress like this one “sewajakarta liked your post on janegaler” which when I search WordPress for that ‘person’ it is obviously bogus and just advertising. In this case in Indonesia! about 50% of the responses to my blog are just like this. Why? and how do I block this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We can disable our settings so we do not receive any notifications at all but we cannot delete or block or prevent anyone with a Gravatar/WordPress.com account from liking our posts and also allow others to like them at the same time. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-way-to-spam?replies=40

Too bad. And interesting. I’m a complete novice but I wonder if one could have a setting that to send an actual message the sender must first actually ‘follow’ the blog in question. None of the ones I’ve received have been followers just visitors. Might be a little bit of a filter?

Thanks for this. I read through the conversations on the link you gave me, I will change my settings.

I would ♥love♥ to have the ability to approve or disapprove follower requests but that’s not possible here.
If we had that ability we could some confidence in the numbers of followers reflected here http://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/?blog_subscribers and that followers list could become a reliable way to gauge audience growth.

I see the link to instructions for disabling the like button, but how do I remove a ‘like’ from a spammer. If you look at my blog’s most recent post you will see the person I’m referring to. it’s the only entry in the ‘like’ box.

You can report the person to Gravatar. However, exactly what Gravatar Staff can or will do, given there is no criteria for registering a Gravatar other than providing an email address, is yet to be seen. To do that you can click the “report abuse” button on the bottom right hand corner of the appropriate Gravatar profile page.

Note also what macmanx, Staff says here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-way-to-spam/page/2?replies=42#post-1216021
