Book Blog Theme Ideas
-
Hello!
My name is Ember and I am a book blogger. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for themes that I can use to make my blog look ‘lighter’/’fresh’, or if anyone has a book blog and uses a specific theme…please do let me know! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh, I love this question!
I’m assuming you’ll want to stick with free themes only, and “lighter” and “fresh” make me think you might be looking for a more minimalist theme as well? With that in mind, these three themes caught my eye:
– Twenty Twelve
– Twenty Eleven
– Twenty FifteenIf I was setting up a book blog of my own, I think I would choose Twenty Fifteen. The sidebar on the side of the live demo makes me think of a bookmark.
Excited to see what you pick!

If you aren’t yet familiar with Full Site Editing in block themes where you can design your own template just using blocks, I recommend the Colinear theme.
It’s very lightweight in appearance, but has a lot of options for customizing it to your own needs. It offers the ability to use a left and right sidebar, or a left only side bar, a right only sidebar, and can do 2 left sidebars, or 2 right sidebars, and both of the latter will include a 3rd sidebar on top of those on whichever side you place them. You can easily customize your color scheme with it, including using a background image. It’s great for a magazine style blog since that is what it was designed for, and would make a great template for a book blog. I’ve used it for years on many different websites and blogs before I designed my own block template.
You can see these two sites of mine to see how I’ve used Colinear:
Both of those sites can give you an idea of what the theme looks like in a dark or light color scheme. My favorite way to use it is with a right sidebar. That way my main content is in the bigger column on the left, and other stuff is on the right. The Colinear theme also offers 3 footer widget sections which are great for a blog that has a lot of content.

I’m sorry, I think the first site I mentioned may currently be private so you might not actually be able to see it. Here is another blog I have that is a “burner” blog I use to compile lists that you can see as an example – https://dtlists.wordpress.com/

Just noting too, you might try setting featured images in your post and see if you like that look. Your front page is currently set up to show featured images if they exist.
Also, since you’re using a site with Full Site Editing, you might check out the webinar on that for some handy tips:
