Bookshelf-flash ebook type of thing

Hello, my wordpress.com blog is called Libraria Futura. A thing I just think would make better place is if wordpress is more writer-friendly. I mean I write since a little kid and since I can’t be advertiser or create trademarks I just want to present my knowledge and art in the best way. I am Bulgarian and I write predominantly in my native language. The trick is that I write mostly fantasy fiction and short stories, some game-books quite a lot of poetry and maxims. I really love my work, but it is getting out of proportions. I am writing much, I am 26 and I am in my most productive years in my life. I want to compile it something like flash-books on a bookshelf. The theme is entirely by mine ideas an strengths and I am pulling the best shots on the field. I want to make it the best way. Is it possible to include such quirks and widgets in the next version, more writer, author-friendly. I don’t try to sell my art, I present it to give happiness, joy and hope in people. I just want to give it the best way. So what will include WordPress tool – I don’t know. I’d love to see something, because there are many guys who post their art and want to do it in the best way. I just want to know if there is more that can be got? Or I have to jump on own domain-spaceship-org and twirl the skies with my own class :P. I am kidding. I’d love to see such widgets be more wide-spread and friendly for people.

    All the best.

Have you checked this widget out? http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/goodreads-widget/

I saw this widget, the majority of the versions can’t be put on wordpress.com site. Besides I am talking about Flip Book Flash Page Widget, stored on sumthin’ like a shelf. That’s it. Whatever, going on domain and be a full-time writer isn’t fully paid off yet. This is while trying to be as opportunistic as possible and present all your writing free for reading, under a Creative Commons banner. I just think that these like Flip Book and other Book-like widgets should be more widespread and free for the people than just “let’s jump on secure domain and get all the plugins and themes we need.” WordPress should be more friendly to writers and authors who try to present their best work. That’s all.

WordPress has their own Good Reads widget they have developed. It is in your dashboard at appearance > widgets in the available widgets section.

The other thing to remember with flash based web stuff, is that people on iPhones, iPads – and now after Adobe has dumped mobile flash, all other smart phones and tablets – is that they will NOT be able to see those widgets in your sidebar. That means you are cutting out a huge number of visitors to your site.

A flash based widget might be possible using the gigya shortcode, but you would have to play around with all the code to get it to work right. You can look through the posts on Panos’ site for some general guidance on using the gigya shortcode.

Plugins and such cannot be used here for security reasons. This is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same underlying theme and wordpress core files. Any un-secure code introduced by one person could bring down a ton of blogs.

If you want all the freedom (and the headaches that come with that) then you can self-host a wordpress installation and put in all the code and plugins you want. Do note though that from my experience, the quality of plugins has gone down the crapper and this week alone I’ve recovered several sites for people that installed plugins that killed their site.

    Caveat emptor.
