—-Can someone tell me if I upgraded to WordPress.org that I would be able to designate something to go directly to “trash” without me getting a email indicating that it was being held in the moderator’s queue? Sort of the equivalent of using “/dev/null” in a procmail recipe? The one thing that drives me nuts about WordPress is the inability to short circuit spam. What you need to do is mark these as spam (not deleting them) when they do land in the moderation queue. Spam comes in waves and you seem to have caught one of those. But Akismet is a learning engine and if you consistently mark all those messages as spam it will start filtering them out automatically.
You may want to disable your comment notification emails temporarily until this wave passes and until Akismet learns to filter them out. If you mark them as spam consistently that should happen fairly quickly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/comment-notification-email/

For information on what might be possible with WordPress.org you’ll have to post in that forum, as we can’t advise you on that here. The two platforms are completely separate.
