Bot Users
-
Every now and then I’ll post something with whatever keyword and suddenly I’m hit with tons of subscribers and comments from bots. Like just mentioning “keto” brings forth tons of keto bots. I’ve searched here and I’ve seen basically the same answer, anyone can follow and like and comment on a public site. So anyone can, but bots aren’t people. Why is this still an issue? Jetpack does nothing that I can tell. So with hundreds of subscribers, I’m supposed to go through all of them and determine which is a bot and report it? What a headache. Is this just something we all have to deal with? Why?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
For your WordPress.com native sites (those with “WordPress.com” in the URL) we have built in spam filtering. Spam activity can rise and fall due to outside factors beyond our control, but as long as you are marking anything that gets through as “spam” it will train our spam filters so they can be better about blocking future visits. More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/comments/#unwanted-comments-and-comment-spam
If you are continuing to have issues with spam comments on any of your WordPress.com sites, let us know which site and where you see the comments in your admin dashboard and we’re happy to take a closer look.
For your Jetpack-connected site at darkdogfiction.com there is not built in spam filtering however. It can be added but is not included by default. More info here: https://jetpack.com/blog/what-is-spam/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
