Bought cool template, can't use it, want to switch the domain of the blog

  Hi WordPress,

  I’m not very technical, so I hope this makes sense. What I would like to do is keep my domain name, and use the wordpress template, but I bought a really cool template that doesn’t work with wordpress.com that I want to use.

  Please let me know what I can do to resolve this problem.

  To use custom themes you’d need to use a self-hosted installation of WordPress.org. We have more details about this in our support docs. Uploading custom themes to WordPress.com isn’t possible but we do have more than 100 themes to choose from.

  Can I switch to a privately hosted blog by switching off of wordpress.com onto a private server and still keep our domain name (www.mumpusandgrumpus.com) which we paid for?

  If you’re interested, we do offer an upgrade called Guided Transfer (available in the Store section of your blog’s Dashboard) where we take care of everything for you: http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

  Otherwise, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/

  Then, point your domain to your hosting provider by changing your nameservers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

  To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

  Can I keep my .com address that I bought from wordpress if I move to a wordpress.org blog that’s hosted by another provider?

  Certainly — it’s your domain! :-)

  You can do so by changing your name servers (in the WordPress.com dashboard) by following this guide:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  Your hosting provider should be able to give you the proper name server values to use.
