Bought domain from WordPress.com, can’t manage it

  Hi everyone,

  A while ago I bought a domain name and its mapping for my WordPress.com blog. Everything works fine: http://qbert72.com

  Now I’d like to manage this domain, either to add some CNAME records if at all possible, or to transfer it to another registrar it not possible. I am following the instructions given under the Options > Domains tab. But the Automattic domain hosting service just never sends the password reset link via email. A Whois query shows that the email address on file for the domain is a good one. As the domain is marked as “Transfer Prohibited”, I’m afraid I’m locked out of my own domain.

  Has anybody experienced a similar situation before, and how have you be able to get out of this jam?

  Yes I have. The only point pertaining to my situation is this:

  Q: I purchased a domain through WordPress.com and now want to point it elsewhere. How can I do that?
  A: If you purchased the domain through WordPress.com, under Options –> Domains from your blog’s dashboard, you will see a link that says “Manage Domains”. If you click on this link you will be able to receive access to a control panel that allows you to change your domains nameservers and point it elsewhere.

  In my blog’s dashboard, there are the following instructions:

  Domain Administration

  The following link will take you to an external site where you already have an account. Before you can log in you must reset the password. Copy the number and follow the link below.

  To reset your password, click “Retrieve my password” then “Reset Password” and enter your customer number. Then check your email.

  I’m following them to the letter, but never get any email from the domain service.

  @qbert – I repointed a domain a few days ago and the email showed up within moments, at the addy in my dashboard profile. If that’s the one you’re checking and there is nothing, I’d suggest contacting support Monday morning. It’s open 8a- 4p Pacific and the support tab will show in the upper right of your navigation bar when it’s open.
