Bought domain via GoDaddy
-
I bought my domain name through GoDaddy because I thought that was I was supposed to do- but now I have to pay you again??
If I had bought the domain via wordpress, I wouldn’t have had to pay twice? Are you affiliated with GoDaddy?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Wild West Domains is something with Godaddy & Wild West handles all the WordPress.COM domain name registrations
No you don’t need to pay twice – you just need to buy domain mapping – see below (but remember to also renew your domain name next year with Godaddy)

I thought WordPress was instructing me to buy the domain name via GoDaddy by linking to their site to check if the domain was available
-
Domain mapping would have been part of the cost – but you would not have saved the $ 13.- / year – it would have been included in the Registration costs ( $ 5.- / year registration + $ 13.- / year domain mapping and you would have been charged $ 18.- / year)
Sorry I don’t know how the linking during registration works but sounds like they might have done a “whois” to check to see if the domain name was available
I will flag this for the staff to give you a more complete explanation of the registration process
