Bought wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org

I signed up for WordPress.com thinking that it would enable be to install plugins and create little carousel gallreries but everything is actually for WordPress.org. How do I have plugins? Is there a way to transfer my account?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Yes, while plugins wouldn’t be possible, you can still enable the gallery carousel by going to Settings > Media in your Dashboard.

However, if you still would like to move, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

As for Premium that cannot be transferred over so I can provide you a refund minus the domain so that you can still keep the domain. You just need to update the nameservers to your host.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

    Hi Grace,

That sounds about right. Please help me transition to WordPress.org then. I don’t need to do a guided transfer as my current blog is blank because of the limitations I encountered.

    Thank you!

Please view the guide I provided you above. It will help you move to WordPress.org.

    Cheers!

How will we process the refund?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’d be happy to refund your WordPress.com Premium upgrade for you. Since you’ve used it to register a domain name, there are two ways we can proceed:

    1) I can refund your entire Premium purchase, including your domain dreamcatchers-events.com. This will lead to a total refund of $99. Your domain will become unavailable for several weeks; after this period, anyone may purchase the domain name. If you’d like a complete refund, and are okay with the prospect of potentially losing dreamcatchers-events.com, this is the way you’ll want to proceed.

    2) If you want to keep your domain, I can refund your Premium purchase, less the domain registration fee. This will lead to a total refund of $73. You will be able to continue to use your domain name, dreamcatchers-events.com, with your self-hosted site, or you can transfer it to use with another service elsewhere.

Please let me know how you’d like to proceed.

    Hi Gracie,

I’d like to keep my domain please ^__^
I don’t mind getting 73$ if I get to avoid the inconvenience of waiting weeks.

Please let me know what else you need!

    Hi there,

I’m so sorry, but I missed the date of your purchase. It was purchased back in April. We only provide refunds up to 30 days from the date of purchase. I apologize for this error.

You will still need to keep the domain registration to be able renew is yearly on your account. Would you like me to remove Premium and keep the domain on your account so you can renew it for just $26 next April?

    Thank you!

  • Unknown's avatar

The 26$ is a yearly fee right?

At this point, removing Premium is useless if I can’t process a refund for it. Would I still be able to move to wordpress.org if I keep the Premium and transfer it to a different Blog of mine? (whoisalyx.wordpress.com)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

Yes, the $26 fee for the domain is a yearly fee.

If you would like to move dreamcatchers-events.com to a self-hosted site, you could definitely transfer the Premium bundle to a different site (whoisalyx.wordpress.com) if you wanted.

Just reply back to confirm, and I’ll be happy to move your Premium bundle for you!

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks, please transfer the Premium bundle to whoisalyx

I’ll reach out to WordPress.org for help ^__^

  • Unknown's avatar

    Howdy!

I have transferred your Premium bundle to whoisalyx.wordpress.com. You can see the upgrade split here:

    https://dreamcatchereventsplanning.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

Currently, the bundle is still associated with your domain dreamcatchers-events.com, meaning the two upgrades will renew together. Would you like me to split the two so you can renew the Premium bundle and domain separately in the future?

  • Unknown's avatar

That would be great thank you!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

Great! I’ve split up the upgrades for you. You can see the domain and Premium bundle are no longer linked so you should be able to renew them both separately:

    https://dreamcatchereventsplanning.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

    https://whoisalyx.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

Please let me know if you need anything else!
