br no longer working to add a line feed

    My posts up until 10/28 accepted the
    < /br> set to force two blank lines between paragraphs. Basically I would compose my post, check the spelliing, in the Visual editor then switch too the HTML editor and add
    </br >
    </br > wherever I wanted two blank lines (and yes there are spaces that shouldn’t be there in this post but I didn’t want them to be interpreted as actual code so I added them here only)

    All of a sudden, my new posts convert the code to <br / > and will not add the blank lines at all. My old posts are fine, the code is there, it is interpreted as intended. If I EDIT the old posts, it converts them and the lines disappear. If I leave them the code is there and the lines are there.

    I use Camino as my browser but it has worked absolutely fine up to this point. So what do I have to do to get my double blank lines between paragraphs back?

    Panos says that we should use this for line breaks:

    <br />

    Oops, sorry, I guess Panos already posted the tip while I was searching for it!

    That’s because BR doesn’t work on comments. Look under the text box to see which HTML code works here.

    @sanjidas: That’s for line breaks alright, but you can’t use it repeatedly for multiple line breaks.

    I am clearly not explaining myself well at all :)

    I am NOT USING THE VISUAL EDITOR when adding a line break.

    1. I type my post, using a return at the end of a paragraph.
    2. I do a spell check
    3. Once I am sure the post is as I want it to be, I CHANGE TO THE HTML EDITOR SOLEY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADDING THE LINE BREAK AND AN ADDITIONAL BLANK LINE

    Once I switch to the HTML editor and add the line breaks and blank line I NEVER siwtch back to the visual editor. Any editing that needs doing I do in the HTML editor. My posts are not complicated so this works fine for me. I always make sure to leave the editor on HTML, so if I open an old post to edit it I don’t erase the formatting of the break/blank line simply by opening the post in the visual editor.

    But the real confusion lies in the fact all this has change in the last week! And that WITHIN THE HTML EDITOR (NOT switching between them) what I type {br}{/br} (those { brackets are really < brackets) transforms into {br /} when I hit publish – the screen refreshes, it tells me the post has been published, and lo, what I typed has been changed.

    Can anyone shed any light on THAT?

    OK – sorted, thanks to Joen (?)

    I was trying to add an image to a post from my iPad and it would not accept my pasted URL. I spent AGES trying to figure out why not, and at some point saw the option “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and ticked it, thinking that could be handy for a numpty like me :) What it did was to correct the “wrong” code I had been using that worked perfectly for the correct code that did not. I’ve unticked it and now the old code works again.
