Brent Wiggins – WordPress Website Building

    Hello WordPress associates,

My name is Brent Wiggins and I have a website but have not bought its domain. I am wanting to make it into this website below:

    http://www.jacquelinesuskin.com/

My website has a similar theme as well here: https://wigginswords.wordpress.com/
I am wanting to incorporate an online shop to my website but still keep the blog as the website’s core.

I would want to update the pages on my website as well in the future, but have no technical skills with my website’s current theme. Do you provide services where someone can edit my website to my liking?

    Your assistance is appreciated,
    Brent

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Brent –

We can help you work on the site and assist when and where you get in to trouble. But, it’s not possible for us to act as a developer or designer of the site. I hope that difference makes sense. If not write back.

What you want to do is very achievable. Plus, you’re going to save bunches of money by learning to work in it yourself :)

I’d suggest taking a look at our different eCommerce options for incorporating that shop. This is a good starting point: https://en.support.wordpress.com/ecommerce/

    Hi Liz,

Thank you for your reference and advice. This does make sense.

If I have a theme I’m used to, is their a tutorial about my theme and other themes? Will I have to change my site’s theme to accommodate the shop I wish to include?

    Kind regards,
    Brent

  • You can find detailed documentation for all themes available on WordPress.com at My Site ->Themes. We cannot provide documentation or tutorials for third party WordPress themes we don’t control, though – that is the responsibility of the developers for those themes, so if you’re planning to use a third party theme make sure they have such documentation in place before you buy anything.

Will I have to change my site’s theme to accommodate the shop I wish to include?

This depends on both the specific theme and the specific ecommerce plugin you choose to use. There isn’t a general answer that applies regardless of what you choose. And your question would need to be answered by the developers for that plugin and/or theme.

Thank you for your answer, I will take it to heart and move forward accordingly.

    Hello again,

I have another question about showcasing a gallery of images on the theme “Hemingway Rewritten.”

Is it possible to do so with this theme or would I need to choose a different theme?

    Kind regards,
    Brent

  • Hi Brent –

You can add a gallery to any page or post on the site. See here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/

There’s also a widget option. That’d be a nice option if it’s not to be super prominent on the page.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/gallery-widget/

This particular theme doesn’t support a post slider if that’s more of what you were looking for. But, like I said, you can easily add a gallery to any page. There are also several custom post types available for use which might be of interest. The specifics are mentioned in the instructions here:

    Hello Liz,

I see where I can add a widget for an image gallery now, but I don’t have the option to do a Carousel image gallery.

It seems the theme Hemingway Rewritten does not have the Carousel gallery option.

How can I include the Carousel to this theme? Is the Carousel the post slider you mentioned?

    Thank you,
    Brent

  • Hi Brent,

If you click on the edit button on your Gallery widget and go to the Type field you’ll get all the options for displaying your gallery, including a slideshow.

Thank you, I have included it now.

I have another question, about adding sound.
I understand I need to have a Business Plan to include sound.

After I have this plan, how would I add a sound effect to a link, hyperlink, or button you click in a post or on the website? Is this possible?

    Kind regards,
    Brent

  • You probably be able to do so. I don’t know of a plugin that can do such a thing, but I’ve people embedding sound effects in the source code of their sites.

    Thank you for clarifying.

I have a question about the business plans. For the Premium Plan ($8), if there were an issue on my website, for example, with the use of a PayPal Button or Contact Form, would their be full support from WordPress to resolve these issues?

Or would I need to purchase the Business Plan ($25) to get full support?

    Kind regards,
    Brent

  • We provide full support for all features we offer, regardless of the plan you choose. All that varies by plan is the support channel, not the features that are supported.

In other words, if you’re on the free plan we only provide support via these forums. On the Personal and Premium plan you have access to email support 24/7, but live chat only 24/5, Monday to Friday. The Business Plan has 24/7 live chat support, and priority email support, meaning we guarantee to get back to you within a certain period of time if you open an email ticket.

    Contact WordPress.com Support

The only limitation on our support is that we cannot support stuff we don’t control, e.g. if you have a problem with the PayPal button due to issues on PayPal’s end, we can’t help with that, or if you’re not receiving emails from the contact form due to a problem in your email account, you’ll need to reach out to your email provider.

    Hello again,

I created a PayPal Donate Button on PayPal and have a HTML Code to copy into my WordPress blog.

When I copy and paste it into the text editor for a page, the image appears in the preview but when I update the page and visit the blog, it does not appear.

How may I make the Donate Button I made on PayPal appear and function properly on the page of my blog?

    Kind regards,
    Brent

  • When you got the code from PayPal, did you select any additional options, like any form options or drop-downs to specify different amounts, etc? If so, that won’t work. We only support the simple Buy Now/Donate button as explained here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Can you please give a link to the page where you’re trying to add the button so we can take a look? If you edit the page now, does the code in the HTML view look the same as the code you got from PayPal, or is some of the code missing? If there’s code missing then you likely selected options for the button that are not supported here, causing that code to be stripped out when you tried to update the post.
