Brice Theme

  Hi there. I liked the theme ‘Brice’ which is offered in the quick set up for a new site but I can’t seem to find it in the themes section. Also, when I applied it to a new site it says the theme is now ‘Maryland’ which looks completely different.

  Hello

  To install a custom theme you would need a business/ eCommerce plan as the Business and eCommerce plans allow you to upload your own custom theme.

  Could you please make sure you have an upgraded plan and follow this doc on installing a custom theme https://wordpress.com/support/themes/uploading-setting-up-custom-themes/?

  PS: The only themes you can use on a free hosted WordPress.com blog are those found here > Appearance > Themes and showcased here > http://wordpress.com/themes/

  Hi there,

  This theme was offered in the quick set up for wordpress, it’s not an external one. It’s called Brice and it says “support your local community” in the demo text. I’m not sure why but when I search for it in themes it’s not there and when I applied it to a test site it renamed the theme Maryland which is a different theme.

  Hi there, do you possibly mean “Mayland”?

  The new site setup seems to include a number of variations on front pages which have a different name to the theme they actually use. I’m not sure why and I agree it’s confusing. Brice is one of those themes.

  Looking at the Theme Showcase for Mayland, it looks like Brice’s title, menu and social icons are in the same places. https://wordpress.com/theme/mayland/

  Your site’s front page should have been set up to look like Brice. If you want to edit that page you can do so from the Pages dashboard.

  The Brice homepage template is one that is available only within the signup flow for creating a new website.

  It is a homepage template based on the Mayland theme so (Excellent sleuthing, @ justjennifer!) and there really is not a way to get that other than to start a new site… or ask a friend. :)

  I have set up the Brice homepage template as a “draft” and you can see it here: https://wordpress.com/pages/drafts/capscotlanddotcom.wordpress.com

  Feel free to modify that draft to set it up as your homepage. Once you are ready you can publish it and then set it as the ‘homepage’ in the theme settings and you will then see it on the homepage of your site as well.
