Bringing existing website content over to WP
-
I’m trying to understand the domain mapping and content transfer aspects of WP. I have an existing website and domain that I want to bring over to WP for the ease of editing and overall function. Do I need to simply delete existing content and then map the domain through WP and then just post all new content all over again once it’s up and running? The existing site was done by the dreaded ‘drag and drop’ on Intuit and is not going well on the layout.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi. This is what I did:
– create a blog on WordPress.com, if you haven’t already done so
– set it to private (okay, I didn’t do this, but I should have! And so should you)
– start importing or moving content to WordPress.com
– once everything is ready, follow these steps to change the nameserver information for your existing domain and buy the domain mapping upgrade:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
– set your WordPress.com blog to public
– wait for the domain name to point to your WordPress.com blog.Regarding your old site’s URLs: they may or may not work. You may be interested in this discovery I made:
