Broken category/topic

    For two recent posts (http://thebalsamean.com/?s=biophilia&submit=Search), one specific category (biophilia) is not working (not showing my posts in that Reader topic).

    The first of the two posts has 12 categories+tags total. The second one, published today, has only ONE category (biophilia) and NO tags. Neither post is in the biophilia topic in Reader.

    All my other categories and tags seem to be working okay.

    Google searches show many posts within wordpress.com with the topic or tag biophilia, but the Reader shows relatively few (one or two of them duplicated several times, too).

    Could this tag/category be broken, stuck, corrupted? Out to lunch?

    Hi there – This is because your category’s slug is actually “biophilia-2.” You can see this here:
    https://thebalsamean.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category

    Try deleting that, adding Biophilia as a category again, and then re-adding it to those posts.

    Thank you, Eurello.

    Now that you pointed it out, I found -2’s on a few other categories, too. Deleting and recreating the category did not work. It just came back with a -2.

    After poking around I realized that I had tags with the same name. I suppose at some point I used them as tags, then later decided I wanted them as categories (probably so they would show on my cat widget), so (I guess) I added them to the categories list in the course of a post edit, and didn’t notice the slug. And I don’t always check to see if my posts show up in Reader topics.

    So … after deleting the tags, I was able to re-create the categories without -2 being automatically added.

    Time for a tag and category list cleanup anyway. Been a while.
