Broken customization on theme

I’m trying to edit my website, which uses Independent Publisher 2. The button to edit the site logo (upper left corner while in the customize editor) is broken. When I clicked on it, my page fades for a second and then nothing. How do I fix this problem?

That does not sound right. I activated the same theme on a WordPress.com site I own and was able to successfully change the site logo.
To be clear, you should open the WordPress.com Customizer and click on Site Identity at the top left. And then, click on Select logo to choose the image of your choice from your media gallery to set as the logo, and then you will be able to crop it to your needs.
Does any of this happen at your end? This could also be a browser issue. Have you tried clearing cache on your browser or using a different browser?

That’s not what I’m looking for. When you go into customization, on the right side of the screen, where the website appears, there is a button on the upper left corner it looks like a photograph. When I originally installed this theme (four days ago), clicking the button allowed me to upload a photo that would come out as a rectangle that appeared behind the Gravitar picture and page links. I tried to change the picture yesterday and it removed the old one but stopped working before I could add the new one.

Gotcha. I just tried using the icons available on the Customizer’s preview section, and I see that I can replicate the same issue.
On clicking the photograph icon, the page fades for a bit and shows the same screen again.
I have added a tag “modlook” to this topic. One of the members from the WordPress.com staff/WordPress.com Happiness Engineers should be able to take note of this and let the engineering/product team to work on this further.

Dropping by just to let you know that I have filed a bug report for this. I’ve also been able to replicate the issue with the picture icon near the site logo.

Howdy! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We’ve removed the broken icon for the site logo, since it wasn’t hooked up to point to anything.
You should still be able to access the header picture by going to Customizer -> Header Image if you want to change that picture in the background of your header.
