Broken Device
-
So, I’m in Brazil working away on a tablet I bought in Paraguay (silly girl). The tablet broke and now I’ve lost 2 long blog posts that I spent hours on :( Is there any way to recover local drafts from a device that’s no longer functioning?
Thanks helpful community! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As far as I know, if you were drafting them directly through WordPress while the device was online, you should be able to get back to those drafts from any device.
Since you mentioned they’re local, though, I’m guessing that either the tablet wasn’t connected to the internet, or you were working on the drafts in a separate text editor? If that’s the case, I don’t know of any specific way to get those back, but your best bet would be to contact the tablet’s manufacturer to see what options they’ve got for data recovery.

Hm, thanks. I’d been online with the tablet, but I’d not scheduled the draft to publish so it hadn’t transferred from the app to the computer and I cant see it when I log into the my phone app. Thanks for the suggestion :) I just need to get the screen fixed but I can’t find anyone in the small town I’m staying in that can source the part because it’s an obscure cheap brand made in China.

Huh, weird that it’s not showing up on the phone app. Usually mine autosaves drafts to be accessible from any device, even if it’s not scheduled to publish. I used to start working on posts at work, for instance, and then just close the tab and come home to finish and publish the post out of my Drafts later.
Let me do some tinkering real quick, and I’ll check and see if I can still get to drafts like that with my phone too; maybe there’s some sort of limitation with the mobile app vs the desktop.
Sorry to hear about your screen, by the way!

Forgot that I uninstalled the app because my stupid hipster phone doesn’t allow app storage on the SD card and is always running out of space, so I just went to WordPress through the browser instead.
It still seems to behave itself, though – I started a draft on the computer and typed gibberish until it auto-saved, then picked it up again on the phone. Just to be safe, I also started a new draft on the phone and went vice versa with no issues in either direction.
One thing that I did notice, though, at least through the mobile site (and from what I remember, the mobile app is pretty much identical), is that the autosaved drafts were buried waaaay down at the bottom of my Posts page, underneath all of my published posts, so I had to collapse them to find the drafts. Maybe double-check there, just in case they’re playing hide-and-seek with you?

Thanks so much but they’re not there :(
I wonder why my devices just can’t communicate with each other? I’ll find a country somewhere that will fix it… Until then the world will have to wait for my post about Florianopolis because I’m not re-writing it! Haha
Thanks again :) -
No problem! Sorry I couldn’t be more help on this one, but best of luck with getting it fixed!
