Broken image link after migrating to wordpress.com
-
I’ve recently migrated from a self-hosted wp.org to wp.com
Everything went well until I discovered that most of the images inside the posts have broken links, still referring to the old URL.
Is there a way to fix it automatically instead of going through each post?Thank you

Hi there!
You might be able to replace those automatically with a plugin, however, to be able to use plugins here, on WordPress.com, you’ll need at least plan Business:
-
Would it be possible to fix those links during a trial of the business plan and later cancel it?
-
Did you import your content to us using the WordPress importer?
If so, can you please give a link to a post on your site where one of these broken images is visible? As long as the images imported to the media library correctly, we might be able to fix this for you automatically, but I’ll need to see an example of the issue to check whether or not we can do that in this case.

Yes, this was done with Worpress importer.
Example: https://inasscool.wordpress.com/2017/11/08/dance-16-black-white-selfies/
if you look through the code of the page, you can still see on the top broken links for the images that are still referring to the old URL

I’ve tried to fix some of the posts by re-adding the images from the library but kept the broken links for reference.

Hm, yeah, I can’t see why that would have happened. The images are attached to the post, which means the URL should have been changed on import.
Is it just a few posts, or was it all posts?
If it was just a few, do you still have the URLs of the posts that were affected?
-
-
Hm, that’s no good.
Was the export file generated from Tools > Export in the WordPress Dashboard with no other plugins or modifiers involved?
If so, we can try emptying the WordPress.com site so you can export a new file and try the import again.
Also, what version of WordPress was the site running?
-
yes, the file was generated through the wp.org.. and later imported on wp.com.
I think it was the latest version of wp.org, because it was on auto-update mode
-
Ok, do you still have access to the WordPress.org site? If so, please verify the version in the footer of the Dashboard.
If it’s 5.4.2, switch off “Speed up image load times” or “Enable Lazy Loading for images” at Jetpack > Settings > Performance in your site’s Dashboard.
Then, generate a new export file.
Let us know when that’s done, and if you’re ok with us completely emptying https://inasscool.wordpress.com/
Once it’s empty, we’ll try that import again.
-
unfortunately, it’s not possible anymore as the hosting has expired.
it seems that I’ll be fixing it manually, the good thing that it’s a small blog. But I just hope the lovely WordPress community look deep into this matter to avoid similar errors in the future during the export/import phase.
