broken image links only for PCs, not Macs

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I recently updated my WordPress site, and now my image links are broken for PCs, but not for Macs. Did I remove a plugin that I shouldn’t have? Anyone have thoughts? Thanks for your time.

  • Hi –

Please provide the site URL. I don’t see any sites registered to the account that you’re contacting us from.

This typically means that the site in question is set up on a stand alone WordPress installation – rather than using one of our managed hosting plans. With these plans, we handle all the back end details like updates, security, spam, seo, etc… to keep your site performing well, and you get to use that time for creating content instead. If you’d like more information about these hosting plans, or have any other questions, write back and let me know. I’ll be happy to answer those. The plans are able to be paid for by month, or by year: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Help with stand alone WordPress installation can come from the community at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ or through your hosting provider.

Please forgive me if this is a double post. I don’t see the first post in the chain. Purchased a plan.

  • Thanks for sharing the domain. I can see that the domain is registered through Bluehost and the site is also hosted there. The good news is that you can just leave that all alone for the time being and work on getting the new site up and going.

Rather than start over, we have some built in tools to help migrate the content over on to kirstincronnmills.wordpress.com. That’s your free site address, and what anchors the site in to your account. Nobody else is going to see that later on once you get the domain connected.

These are the instructions you’ll follow for a DIY approach: https://wordpress.com/support/import/#self-hosted-word-press-org-site

Once you have everything ready to go, you can attache the domain to the hosting plan and thus to that site. https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

Remember, we are always close by in the forums. If you run in to trouble or need help, just reach out and ask.

Alternatively, we have a team that focuses on this type of work, they will take care of getting the new site up and running for you. More details about that can be found here: https://builtbywp.com/

Is there any way to fix the website that I have before I migrate it? Or is that a question for Bluehost? I have potential clients looking at it right now, and could really use a site that looks good while I migrate things.

  • For what it’s worth, they’re loading up just fine here on a Windows laptop. If you’re still having issues though, it may be something with the servers there, and Bluehost would need to address that.
