Broken layout; Sidebar displays below page

    Hi, my side bar is displaying below the page contents. I understand that the most likely cause of this is inclusion of ‘div’ in the code, but I don’t have any of those. All other pages appear to be okay (checked a sample of other pages not all).

    Sidebars do not fall to the bottom and display below posts and/or posts do not appear in sidebars unless
    (1) content has been imported into the blog,

    (2) the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

    (3) or the blogger has copied and pasted invalid HTML into a text widget or left an HTML tag open

    Thanks timethief …I’ve tried one or two of the most obvious ones already but certainly not all. I’ll work my way through this list and hopefully find a solution. Thanks again : )

    The problem is in the last comment on that page. Edit the comment and remove these from around the PS: 

    <li>
</li>

    (What were you trying to do by adding those tags?)

    justpi: thank you so very much. I was really beginning to tear my hair out, as I couldn’t find anything wrong wiht my content, and I don’t tend to copy and paste from Word.

    I was not looking at the comments, just my post. Removing the
    <li> tag from the last comment worked did the trick.

    In answer to your question “what was I trying to do by adding those tags?”, I should perhaps make the point for others reading this in the future, that as a content creator I had done nothing wrong.

    I did not add the tags. The tags were part of a comment made by a reader, and i guess that this effectively means that any time a comment is made on a WordPress blog by a third party, there is a chance that comment might inadvertently include code that screws up the layout.

    Not sure that’s great news, but seems to be how it is. I guess I’ll just have to keep an eye on comments, however I’m not sure that I get to see the actual code when a comment appears for moderation.

    No. The code a reader can use in a comment is extremely limited (to prevent such accidents, among other reasons). See this post of mine:

    All other code is automatically stripped out. So if you didn’t add the li tags yourself, it must have been a rare temporary glitch. I’ve only seen it once before (and it was in a comment by the administrator of the blog).
