broken link to Jetpack compromised my Permalink

  • Unknown's avatar

I had JetPack for several years, but now it is not working. The stats are gone.
There was an error message about a broken link. So I deactivated the plugin and
when activated, the green banner link to the WP site resulted in a 404 message.

I also checked the Permalink page, nothing is different than the past several
years. However, I noticed that somehow my website is not connected to WP. How
can this be? No changes were made to the site in months, unless it was hacked.
Can you help me with troubleshooting this issue? How can I permanently delete this flawed JetPack plugin? Many Thanks, in advance! :)

Hi there, what is the address of the site you are inquiring about?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, thesacredpath,
The site is https://www.redlotus.org, using the Barcelona theme. I deleted the JetPack plugin but it turns out the latest JetPack plugin requires that WP is upgraded to a 4.7 WP platform. WP upgraded recently, but still running at 4.5.2. So the new JetPack plugin cannot install. I do not want to manually upgrade WP so should I just wait until it upgrades to 4.7?
Many Thanks for any help. :)

    Hi there,

WordPress 4.5.2 was released on May 2016 and is an insecure version fo WordPress. For this reasons we _strongly_ recommend to the most recent WordPress version 4.9.7 released this month.

If you are not able to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress you should upgrade to the latest 4.5 branch which is 4.5.15 and can be downloaded here. Note, that you still won’t be able to use Jetpack on this version but your site will be more secure.

If your WordPress version has automatically updated then I’m afraid it’s not going to. :(
Your host, HostGator may also be able to help you upgrade your WordPress version to the latest.

Once your WordPress version has been upgraded to _at least_ 4.7 then please reinstall the Jetpack and you’ll be good to go.

Thank you so much for both of your help! :)
I will contact HostGator support again and get help with the latest 4.7 WP download.
Jetpack has been very helpful, hope the free version is still available?

Glad the information @thesacredpath and @bdukes provided has been a help!

Yes, Jetpack still offer a Free plan in addition to their paid plans:

Hostgator is not helpful, I am on my own with this. Thanks for your input, I learned a lot. Much gratitude. :)

Glad we were able to help. Sorry to hear that your experience with HostGator was less then what you expected. One option you may consider is moving your site from HostGator to WordPress.com. You may do so by following this guide:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

I recommend this as the sites we host will always be running the latest versions of WordPress and include the features in Jetpack. For a comparison between WordPress.com and your HostGator (WordPress.org) site see:

    Thank you, bdukes,
I was never too impressed with HostGator, but recently, they seem to really stay away from offering tech support help altogether. My web developer signed me up with them, but maybe it is time for a change.
I will save your link info for the future. :)
