Broken Links
-
I am trying to update blog posts (for ‘cultureclayblog’) ‘Comic Books for Parents: Part 1’ and ‘The cost of Hidden Misery’. I keep getting error messages and it says the links don’t exist.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

https://cultureclayblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/14/comic-books-for-parents-part-i-2/ is still there. I actually bookmarked it at the time as it was about one of the numerous topics I’m interested in.

Hi, themagicrobot:
Yes, it’s there, but every time I attempt to edit it, I get an “Invalid Post Address” message. Now that I’m learning to add pictures (badly), I wanted to add a picture. But I can’t edit the post. :(
Do you have any idea why?

Have you tried accessing your posts via the wp-admin dashboard?
-
Alas, I’ve tried every way I can think of. I’m not sure if I’ve tried the wp-admin dashboard — but only because I don’t know if I’ve been there or not!
-
It’s not that I can link to the two blog posts. Rather, every time I attempt to edit them, I get the “Invalid Post Address”.
-
Hi @cultureclayblog, can you tell me what browser you’re using, and what address you’re starting with when editing posts?
For what it’s worth, I’ve tried Chrome on a mac, and am able to edit posts with the edit link on the main page, on individual posts, through wordpress.com/posts, and through wp-admin.
Also, an odd question but I’ve seen it create some odd issues: do you happen to use a “masked” or “framed” redirect with a domain?
-
Sure. I’m using Mozilla Firefox. And I can edit most of my blog posts. It’s only “Comic Books for Parents, Part I” and “The Cost of Hidden Misery” that I can’t edit. I’m still trying to learn how to add a featured picture to my blogs, and I had been going back to do that. By the way, is there are certain size I should be using for the featured picture? Not the header associated with the blog, but the picture associated with the post? My pictures look good when I add them, but then are distorted depending on how my post is viewed.
-
If you can get screenshots of some of the distortions and add them to your media library, then update us here, I’ll take a look & see if I can see what’s wrong.
I still can’t duplicate the issue you’r seeing.
If you click this link, what happens?

About featured image recommendations, yours displays images at 884px wide. I’d go ahead and make them twice that wide. You can decide whether you want the effect of taller images like this:

Hi. I tried the link. I got the “Invalid Post Address” message again. I’ll load it in a word document along with some of the distortions. I apologize for taking your time. Obviously, other people can do this!

@cultureclayblog that is really odd.
Obviously, other people can do this!
Only because they aren’t seeing the same error. :) I’ve been here a long time and haven’t seen this before… but as long as you’re willing to keep troubleshooting with me, we’ll figure this out. Do you get the same error if you log into WordPress.com in another browser, then go to that link? I’m wondering if you’ve got a conflicting extension.
Re: featured images; yeah, those are being “stretched” to be large enough to fit the space. If you use larger images that should clear up.
-
I am certainly willing to work with you. I appreciate your help. I was on travel for work, and I’ve just gotten home. This may help.
I was adding to my blog. “Teenagers, alcohol, and sex”. While I was composing, I kept getting “Save failed” messages in a red bar across the top. When I hit “Publish”, it said that the publishing had failed. But the post is there! I just can’t edit it.
Hmmmm. I wonder if our web filter, Net Nanny, is causing this problem. I’ll explore that possibility.
-
@cultureclayblog that could well be the case, especially if it works on computers that don’t use Net Nanny.
I’d try:
– trying another browser
– trying another computer
– trying a different connectionThen if it turns out the issue only touches systems with Net Nanny, maybe ask them if you can make exceptions so WordPress.com will work properly.
-
Well, I didn’t use another browser, but all the links are now working! I can edit previous blog posts. I thought you must have done something, but I guess not. So, it must not be Net Nanny. In fact, I explored that possibility, and Net Nanny is set up to allow WordPress.com. Whatever it is that causes the saves and publishing to work when it says it’s not working, and whatever caused the broken links, it all appears fixed now. It’s a mystery.
