Broken links need fixing
-
Hi folks,
I’m writing to see if any of your policies have changed regarding correcting links on abandoned blogs….
PLEASE UNDERSTAND – I’M NOT ASKING FOR THE CONTENT TO BE CHANGED! JUST BROKEN LINKS FIXED!
In this case, the blog has been abandoned since 2007 – 6 years ago!
*ALL I AM ASKING* is for someone to FIX THE BROKEN LINKS on this blog by adding “wordpress.” to the links – so that they don’t go to an outside website page that claims to be about fibroids but is just a site that gives other links.
Please see:
http://geekwithfibroids.wordpress.com/questions/This site has had almost 1.5 million visits, and has hundreds of entries that continue to help women – but only if they know to add “wordpress” to the links.
YOU can ensure that this site continues to serve as an invaluable site for women – there is a wealth of medical and health related knowledge on the site and it needs to continue.
In fact, I exchanged emails with someone at wordpress support a few years ago and they understood the situation and were kind enough to fix some of the links, but there are a lot more and it would be so appreciated!
For example, if you click on the above link, and then click on one of the links at the top, you will see the problem! IF YOU DO NOTHING MORE THAN FIX THE LINKS ON THAT PAGE, IT WOULD BE AMAZING! Of course correcting all the links would be better, but this is one of the main pages, so that would help alot.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DO THIS, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF A SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER OR OWNER WHO COULD AUTHORIZE THIS! I would happily take over the site, but I doubt you would ever allow that – so please – just add “wordpress.” and fix the links!!! Why would that be against policy?
One of your customer support people suggested starting a new blog, but they don’t understand that there are thousands of entries on this blog that would be lost…and that would be a huge shame and would take years to re-create. I suppose I could put in the correct links into a new blog to link back to this one… but that just seems ridiculous! Plus, I don’t have the time to start a whole new blog, however, taking this one over and fixing the links is definitely do-able. So please, I can understand it if you cannot authorize letting me do that, but what is wrong with fixing some links? It’s not changing the content, it’s just fixing the site!!!
I really think the webmaster died, she was extremely active and devoted to the site and then everything just stopped. Just to show you how active she was, here is a link to her involvement with wordpress https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/eclecticgeek
– 73 postings from August ’06 to March ’07!
You’ll see she did amazing things with the blog in only 8 months! I cannot imagine that she abandoned it. (Also, note that there is still a Paypal donation link on the page… paypal must be collecting donations that she will never see! Maybe the link should be removed…)FYI – I’ve monitored the blog for any sign of her, I and other users scoured the content to try to find her – to no avail. We even searched obituaries in Virginia and Vermont since she may have been from there…
Please help her legacy continue!
Thanks,
Amy Dawson -

I flagged this for the staff – but I suspect the answer will be the same as the last time you ask about this blog
-
Is that YOUR blog? If not, you can’t control the content, particularly not to have staff edit the content to point it at a blog with which you are associated.

Thanks auxclass!
raincoaster – you didn’t understand or didn’t fully read my posting.
I specifically said I do not want content changed only links fixed (to point to other pages in that blog!) so I am not asking them to point it at a blog with which I am associated! I said perhaps I could make a blog and put in links (corrected ones) to these pages! That is something *I* would do if I had the time and knowledge – that is NOT something I would ask wordpress to do – nor could they do it on a blog I created!
-
Links are content. You cannot edit other peoples’ blogs, period, nor can you have staff do it for you.
-
Well, I would disagree – the intent of the links is for them to point to the proper pages – if they are not doing so, it’s a repair not a change in content. The webmaster would never want them to link to a bogus site!
I am hoping and it doesn’t hurt to ask – since it WAS done by wordpress staff before – it is just that a lot are still wrong. They also fixed the main link too, when it didn’t have wordpress as part of the link and we didn’t know what was wrong – they fixed that!
How about letting Staff answer?
-
Enjoy waiting for staff to give you the same answers I did. If one of them edited one of my blogs at the request of a third party I’d go full metal raincoaster on them.
-
I don’t mind waiting, they’ve always answered before… and even if they say no, I will continue to post the question regularly.
I am fairly certaint that the webmaster is either dead or completely incapacitated – so she is not going to go postal on them.
I am certain, that if this woman could, she would have continued the blog – she spent huge amounts of hours posting and answering questions nearly every day.
I have to wonder if the treatment she underwent for fibroids killed her in the end…

Each and everyone of us bloggers has a Google webmaster’s account and has access to the list of broken links on our blogs. Each and everyone of is is personally responsible for fixing broken links on our own blogs.

It’s my understanding that although available treatments control symptoms and can shrink fibroids, only hysterectomy eliminates them completely. It’s also my one does not die of fibroids, unless one remains untreated and/or in extreme cases refuses to get a hysterectomy. I don’t believe anyone with as much information as that blogger has on fibroids and their trreatment would remain untreated or refuse life preserving surgery.

She underwent a Uterine Fibroid/Artery Embolization (UFE/UAE) – a relatively new procedure at the time – but how she died, if she died, is immaterial.
For what it’s worth – from Wikipedia:Adverse effects
Adverse effects that have been reported include death from embolism, or septicemia (the presence of pus-forming or other pathogenic organisms, or their toxins, in the blood or tissues) resulting in multiple organ failure.[8] Infection from tissue death of fibroids, leading to endometritis (infection of the uterus) resulting in lengthy hospitalization for administration of intravenous antibiotics.[9] Misembolization from microspheres or polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles flowing or drifting into organs or tissues where they were not intended to be, causing damage to other organs or other parts of the body.[10] Ovarian damage resulting from embolic material migrating to the ovaries. Loss of ovarian function, infertility,[11] and loss of orgasm. Failure of embolization surgery- continued fibroid growth, regrowth within four months. Menopause – iatrogenic, abnormal, cessation of menstruation and follicle stimulating hormones elevated to menopausal levels.[12] Post-Embolization Syndrome (PES) – characterized by acute and/or chronic pain, temperatures of up to 102 degrees, malaise, nausea, vomiting and severe night sweats. Foul vaginal odor coming from infected, necrotic tissue which remains inside the uterus. Hysterectomy due to infection, pain or failure of embolization.[13] Severe, persistent pain, resulting in the need for morphine or synthetic narcotics.[14] Hematoma, blood clot at the incision site. Vaginal discharge containing pus and blood, bleeding from incision site, bleeding from vagina, fibroid expulsion (fibroids pushing out through the vagina), unsuccessful fibroid expulsion (fibroids trapped in the cervix causing infection and requiring surgical removal), life threatening allergic reaction to the contrast material, and uterine adhesions. -
